ATI All In Wonder HD Picture Issue

I picked up the visiontek deluxe version of this card and have been having a problem with picture quality on both Catalyst Media Center and Vista Media Center (with tv pack installed). I'm using comcast cable, and can find the network hd channels and digital channels in qam. however, whenever there are brighter colors on the hd channels, especially blues and reds, the colors jump or flicker up and down. but it will just be the blues or reds on the screen, but not all the time. This is very noticable during the Democratic National Convention and earlier the olympics. the blues on the stage, or on peoples ties will like bounce up and down, while the other colors on the screen will look fine. I've tried reinstalling the software, using new hdmi cables, even a dvi-to hdmi cable, and all the same problem in both catalyst and vmc. ive tried changing brightness/contrast/etc options on both the catalyst control center and the monitor. I was hoping someone would have an idea, cause its kinda sickening to try to watch tv with it like this. I do not have this problem with other hd content on my monitor (h264/hddvds/set top box).

Vista Ultimate 32bit w/ fiji tv pack upgraded (fresh install)
Visiontek ATI all in wonder hd deluxe
    core 2 duo e6850
    4 gigs of ram
    GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3
Westy L2410nm (24 inch 1920x1200) connected with hdmi

What is your cabling setup like? I know I had a similar issue which turned out to be due to a bad cable splitter. Comcast ended up coming out and finding a few redundant splitters in the box in my building. Once they removed a couple, my HD channels cleared up.

If you're using a splitter at all, try removing it and using only 1 feed to see if it clears up at all. If not, then you'll have to continue troubleshooting, but if so, you may be simply maxing out the throughput.

I had the same issue. The cable company came out and found that I had to many splitters too. Also found out I had loose connections going to my monitor.
I did allot of reading about the splitters. Certain splitters are good for your cable modem and certain ones are good for your cable TV.
Also had the cable company remove the old cable from the telephone pole to the house and reinstall a new one. Like night and day.

Thanks for getting back to me, it makes sense, my analog reception isnt so great either it seems.  I have comcast coming tomorrow to check it out.

had comcast come out today, I live in an apartment building, they replaced the splitters and the analog picture did get alot better, my modem receive signal went from -8 to -3, but i still get the flickering.  i doubt i'll get the landlords to replace the cables in the wall or get comcast to replace the underground line to the house (since the picture is pretty good on normal tv and the modem is working fine). any other suggestions?

Re: ATI All In Wonder HD Picture Issue

Very curious, but did you need to do something special to get your AIW HD to become recognized as a "Digital Cable QAM Tuner" in VMC? I have this same card, and it will only recognize as another "Analog Tuner".

Thank you for any help you can give.

Re: ATI All In Wonder HD Picture Issue

So far I ditched everything but pinnacle PCTV To Go Wireless. The PCTV gave me the best reception. Still not thrilled about the regular stereo. Kiss 5.1 surround sound out the door. I am able to get pretty darn good HD though. I still have a bit of a problem with Texas Instruments IEEE 1394 OHCI Host Controller. For some reason microsoft seems to want to use it for USB controller and PCI-E controller and every other damn controller you can think of.
