Re: (MCE) Multi Zone Audio - Beta1 Imminent

Pretty please can we have an update?

If another Beta version is near or even release I'd like to know.

I have 3 of the multioutput audio cards mentioned above, and currently use a product called "Commandcubes" but the company producing it has vanished and so development has halted, so Im keen to jump elsewhere.

    Multi Zone Audio

    Hi all.

Apologies for being away for so long. I had some personal issues which needed tending to. Nothing major I'm glad to say, but needed some attention nevertheless.

The project has stalled, but I hope to devote more time to it over the coming weeks!

    Smile [:)]

    Re: Multi Zone Audio

    Hi,

I'm reading this thread with great interest as I'm having the same whishes as your guys and also seeing the same great potential of extending the VCE functionality through whatever devices (NUVO in this case), to support multible Audio/Video devices at the same time.

The biggest different is I'm placed in the CEU or more precisely DK (not the capital of Sweden ;-)), and are having somewhat other struggles, as the technology has not reached CEU to the same extend as in the US. And for Nuvo, this is not even a product you can purchase domestic ??! ;-(

When saying this, I would encourage this great work and I will continue to read this thread.

    /Jesper

    Re: Multi Zone Audio

some tests carried out from the beta above:

I'll update the results as and when i have more time:

    Installed fine.

When i started the app it took me a while to realize it relied on WMP to provide the track lists.

Which means I have to start creating playlists, if it can interrogate playlists why cant it also grab the genre, artist or album listings as well?

I come from a product called command cubes which though has a clunky interface, has a good interface for searching for tracks. It also plays internet radio.

It picked up my Maudio Delta sound cards no problem, all I had to do was go through the zone preferences and switch off the ones that were not connected. 12 zones all managing to play independently.

None of the help/support links work.

The browser interface didnt work at all either but I will check firewall settings this evening.

What else would you like me to test?

    Re: Multi Zone Audio

    Hi rich1231 :-)

Sorry - I should have told you about the WMP playlist requirement. The telnet version can query genre etc. - this functionality will be added to the next (non-telnet) version.

Glad to hear the feedback on the Maudio Delta sound cards. 12 zones - excellent :-)

Yep - Help/support links don't work. Not very helpful! If the project takes off the website will be revamped to provide help & support.

The browser interface was disabled in the version you have (I think). The plan is to build a half-decent browser interface, perhaps including one for mobile devices.

Can you test playing the 12 zones in sync?

    Thanks!

    Re: MCE Multi Zone Audio

I would like to see the ability to support multiple sound cards that can mapped to seperate sources in MCE (i.e  music through one card, and TV or PVR thorugh anohter etc.  There is alot of exising hardware that manages seperate zones.  In my case, I have a high end A/V receiver that manages the seperate zones within my home.  I appears my only solution is to have multiple copies of MCE running...

    Re: MCE Multi Zone Audio

I'm also very interested in this and have been following it for a few years now.  I work for a custom electronics integration company which would benefit greatly from this but just for me personally I'd love to put this in my home system.  I know that Inteset, Vidabox, and a few others have this capability already and Autonomic Controls will be doing something similar when their newest version of their control system comes out, but I'd like to get something that I can use personally on my own HTPC builds without shelling out hundreds or thousands of dollars on their product just to get that one piece of the puzzle (wow...run on sentence).  If ANYONE has any info related to this please let me know.  I and some of my guys would be glad to pay for it.  Thanks.

    MCE Multi Zone Audio Update

    Hi all.

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, but I may as well have as regards the MZ Audio application. I've been busy doing other things.

Anyhow, if I don't get any time to devote to this by the end of the year, I'll make it open-source.

    Regards,
    B

Also, I wonder if anyone could develop a sever-client plugin that would reside on 1 VMC (acting as the server) while allowing audio synchronization between, clients (additional VMC(s) or extenders)?

Instead of using additional audio cards, the song synchronization will be maintained by the software and the audio output would be done via the respective playing device.  For example if your extender is connected to a 5.1 setup, the music will be played through it.  Is this concept impossible?  If so, why?
