Ok I am having a hard time install MCE 05.

Everything is fine until after I install SP3 then all of my Microsoft updates fail.

I can manually install the updates but I am not organized enough for this to be my solution. 

I format my drives and reinstall MCE run Microsoft updates then bam I install all updates upto SP3 and that is the last time I can get Microsoft updates to work successfully.

Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on here or how to fix this issue?

I purchased the copy from new egg a few years back.  It ran allright but i needed to change my video card which was nothing but a pain from the begining ATI AIW X600 Pro. and I had verious other problems related to other software so I figured I would just update my vid card and my tv tuner and do a fresh install.

Anyway I do pass Activation with no issues every time I have tried to reinstall it was about 4 times last week.  The very first time I re-installed it and everything did go good but being a little anal I had a few minor problems so I figured I would reload it with a few minor changes.   after i formated and reinstalled I have not been able to get past the SP3 and continue updating with Microsoft updates.  after I succesfully update to SP3 restart then go back into Microsoft updates all updates fail to install aslo i get no error codes. just a generic message stating that all updates fail.  for further info click here and that brings up the microsoft updates help section.

I only used microsoft updates (the upgrade to windows updates) untill i get to the point where Microsoft updates continues to fail.   I have manualy gone to Microsoft and downloaded and updated the updates that Microsoft Updates fails, which worked succesfully but when it came time to do the MCE rollups it continued to tell me (paraphrasing here as it has been a few days) basicly that i need some more prerequiset updates before running the rollup updates.  Even at this point Microsoft and windows updates both continue to fail.  So i relized this will not work as I will never be able to keep up with the updates.

I did stumble on your thread trying to research this problem but i was not to sure it related directly to my issue.  But it does seem awful coincedentle that it is with SP3 so I think following your previous thread will be my next attempt to fix the problem.  I will try this and check back.

Post the last few sections of the windowsupdate.log file, it is located in your Windows Directory.  The whole file is probably really huge so just copy the last sections from bottom up and it should have multiple error codes which we can use to resolve the issue.

OK so it was SP3 I have reinstalled with manualy updating through windows updates (100+ updates).  Now It all seems to work way better then before. 

Should I install sp3 now or not?
