    Black Video on live TV

I'm trying to setup a medica center pc with Media Center XP.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with an integrated Intel® 82845G video card, and an Emuzed Maui-iii TV Card that I got from my sisters Gateway.  I downloaded the drivers from Emuzed, and am able to get live TV with the MovieMill software, but when I launch live TV in Media Center, I only get a black screen with all of the controls on the bottom and the menu bar (green button) on top left.

If I pause the TV video, the video shows up paused, but if I click play, the video goes black again. If I record the TV, the same thing happens when played back. Play=Black, Paused=Video, but paused.

I downloaded the most recent video driver from Intel

I tried both TV card driver from EMuzed and Gateway. Both work fine with MovieMill, but not MCE.

The MCE disc is a Dell OEM disk that I bought from a friend.

ANy help would be great. I imagine it's a driver issue, or not enough video memory, but wanted to check here first.
    Thanks,

    Tom

    Here is what I have.http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d16/garciatdg/decoder_screencap.jpg

I also want to add that the version indicated on system properties is MCE 2002 Service Pack 2

If you go to Settings/General/About/Software Version, it probably says MCE2005. I wonder if trying to install another MCE codec, say nvidia's pure platinum, will that fix it.

What about the WIndows Codec Pack found at:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=06fcaab7-dcc9-466b-b0c4-04db144bb601&displaylang=en

I assume you're pointing to a codec issue instead of hardware?

It installed ok, but when I launched media center, I am still getting the black screen here is a link to the screen I see http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d16/garciatdg/blackscreen.jpg.

I also loaded the windows codec pack but that didn't do anything either..

Thanks for the help keep it coming.

Re: Black Video on live TV

The WMP codec package won't help, as the one thing that it doesn't have is an MPEG-2 decoder.

One thing I'm wondering here:  according to your DecCheck screenie (thanks for that!  If only more people would do that when someone here asks them to install DecCheck...), you have some version of Nero (what might it be?), as well as Cyberlink Power Producer installed.  You use both?
Sometimes, 'extra' decoders confuddle Media Center a bit.  If one or the other (program) isn't ever used, I'd suggest uninstalling it.  Reboot the system, re-run deccheck, make sure that the default is still what it should be, and check functionality.
If you do use one, the other, or both, then (temporarily) un-register the extra decoders.
Check functionality.  If it works, then re-register them one at a time (deccheck run after each, to check the default setting), checking function to see which one breaks Media Center.

On the topic of codecs, what else (esp. in the way of codec packs) do you have installed - k-lite, ffdshow, CCCP, etc?

The system is bare. I haven't installed anything on it except the codecs that are listed.  The Nero codec is part of the DVD-RW software pack that came with my writer. I figured that it might help since it had a more current version of Cyberlink DVD.

Nothing is working. I verified the driver from Lumanate.com. I installed a trail WINDVD (uninstalled now) Something funny did happen yesterday. I launched LIve TV and video came up and played for 1 second then froze. I left it on that channel and I was able to rewind it and see video while rewinding, but it will not play back.

I also downloaded an Windows media center diagnostic utility at http://www.lumanate.com/aspx/faqgeneral.aspx and here is what I get when I run the test, but I don't know what it means. Can anyone decipher this and provide a solution?

I wonder if that tv tuner is compatible with MCE, I've never heard of it. And keep one thread so it doesn't get confusing. We all look at the same forums.

Sorry, I just wanted to make sue that it was in the right forum. I saw the other one while browsing.  My dumb luck would have me buy a copy of MCE that isn't compatible with my tuner.  I think I'm gonna sell it on ebay and get another one.
