    Xbox 360 "Connection Terminated"

    Hey

I am experiencing a problem; I just purchased a new laptop with Vista Ultimate. I thought I would give streaming HD over my wireless network to my 360 a go. It worked but was dropping packets like crazy.

I thought the solution would be to run a LAN cable from my laptop to my wireless router!

So a few days had passed and I finally purchased a network cable. Plugged everything together and now I get the message on the Xbox 360 saying Connection Terminated! The PC finds the 360 and you can see it in the network devices but when the 360 try’s to connect to the pc it will just die and say connection terminated...... Then loops over and over again?

Tried back to wireless and that doesn’t work anymore!!

Now during the period on getting that network cable I did purchase Norton Antivirus 08.

So I thought it may have been firewall problems! So I shutdown Windows Firewall and Norton. And still no go???

    Any Ideas?

     Thankyou in advance

    Xbox360 : Error message “ Connection terminated “.

Xbox console cannot connect to the computer... and you encounter “Connection terminated“ Error Message in the process. This article explains just what to do when you receive this error message.

Error Messages in Xbox 360 console can be either of the following.
    • Connection Terminated

      or

Note : If your computer is attached to a domain then there might be a chance that group Policy setting prevents the Xbox console from connecting to the computer.

Follow the steps to check whether group Policy settings are causing the connection issue.

    •      Detach the computer from the domain temporarily.
    •      Restart Computer.
    •      Add Xbox 360 console as an Extender again.

This should now resolve the problem.

    Re: Xbox 360 "Connection Terminated"

What is the video driver that you are using on your laptop?

A number of cases have popped up recently where the video driver installation did not install necessary components for an extender.

Here is a link to a thread with instructions to do further diagnosis:

    Re: Xbox 360 "Connection Terminated"

It may actually be your network adapter driver too.  My 360 worked great until I updated my network adapter driver so I could use the HDHomerun tuner.  Now my Xbox drops a connection after about 15-20 min at the beginning of every session.  Once I restart (without turning off the xbox) it stays connect.  This was a direct result of the driver upgrade but a small price to pay so I can use the HDHomerun.

    Re: Xbox 360 "Connection Terminated"

I think it's a remote desktop setting in the registry, not allowing the extender to connect to your video card. Check this thread out: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/permalink/287163/287163/ShowThread.aspx#287163

    Re: Xbox 360 "Connection Terminated"

    Hi.

Just wondering if there was ever a solution found for this problem?

I get the same thing. Xbox sits on the "contacting..." screen then "Connection Terminated". Laptop recognises the xbox, and says "ready for use", but wont start Media Centre on the xbox.

Have had a look at the links posted above but i dont think thats my issue.

    Re: Xbox 360 "Connection Terminated"

There are lots of different solutions becuase it has been caused by lots of different problems.  And there are a ton of threads on this subject as well as with the keywords "MCX" DMA2100", etc...

Most typically the problems are caused by firewalls (including those in cluded in other products such as Anti-virus and Net Nanny).  If your computer ever had a Symantec or Norton product on it, then download their removal utility which removes last vestiges.

There are other solutions already mentioned in this thread: NIC, gigabit switch, NIC options.
