    Lost Connection on Linksys WMCE54AG

    Any help would be appreciated

I had my Linksys WMCE54AGextender functional until I had to reinstall Windows MCE 2005.  I did so, installed all of the quick fixes, security updates, etc and then tried to reinstall my extender.  I know that the connection between my computer and the extender is working because I successfully updated the extender software.  After the update, however, I received a message:

The connection between the Media Center Extender and the Media Center PC was lost due to one of the following reasons (Error Code 00000002)

with two following sentences about either a busy computer or a computer in hibernation.  Both of these are incorrect.

All firewall setting are correct with the correct ports.

The extender seems to be cycling through attempts to connect, but nothing happens.

The event viewer show an information event 291 for each attemted connection with Media Center Extender Services:

AffConfirm RQ - Device {00000000-0000-0010-8000-000F66FE018F} - Successfully affiliated.

I don't have a clue what this means, but it appears to say that the Extender and Computer successfully communicated.  The last numbers are the MAC ID of my extender.

I've checked the Linksys support site, the MS support site, Googled the lost connection error and can't seem to find a solution.

The Extender was working before the Windows re-install, but not now.

    Any suggestions?

I'm in the middle of researching this for my setup. I think it's related to remote desktop and graphics drivers. I'll let you know what I figure out.
Do you have "Application popup:  : \SystemRoot\System32\RDPDD.dll failed to load" in your event viewer, too?

Re: Lost Connection on Linksys WMCE54AG

Alright, I found the answer. There are 3 differet things to try, all of which are in this thread:
    http://forums.microsoft.com/windowshomeserver/showpost.aspx?postid=2141025&siteid=50&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=1

Add a reg key so remote desktop can share the video card:

If you increase the size of the session image space then you can run remote desktop.

    Add the following registry key:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]

    "SessionImageSize"=dword:00000020

I don't think these next 2 are necessary, but they work:

    Uninstall .NET Framework 3

Or, revert your nvidia drivers to 169.21

Try adding the reg key first. Then reboot. I can now connect to my extenders with no problem.

Here's a link if you have trouble installing the extender software after SP3:

Re: Lost Connection on Linksys WMCE54AG

i had this issue for months, thinking it was either the new quad core, the 4gb memory, the wiring of the network, multiple routers. finally discovered the real cause of this was the roll up update for the extender software. not the MCE roll up update

i installed the update and suddenly everything worked.

the one redflag i should have paid more attention to was on mce resource monitor. all was fine excep the last entry, the memory. i had 4gb and it said i didn't have enough memory. this rollup corrects this and the extender and everything else immediately started working perfectly. which is good, as i have no desire to fight vista to keep my media center set up

    the filename is Linksysv101.exe

Re: Lost Connection on Linksys WMCE54AG

If you're running the XBox 360, then the linksys101 update doesn't help. But I'm glad that fixed your issue. It's usually always the remote desktop/nvidia registry entry that solves it.
