Sympton: Click on Life TV, little whirly thing whirls for about 1 second and then nothing.

I cannot watch life TV.  I could before, now I can't.  I was getting an error message about messanger so I deleted a windows update [KB946648] (and set Windows Update to notify only - stupid thing!).  Now that error doesn't turn up.

I can watch recorded TV
I cannot d/l the guide (error code 23)

Any suggestions?

Not sure what version I am running - ehshell.exe version number is 5.1.2715.3011

Did you reinstall that KB after changing the messenger setting or try rebooting?

reinstall the messenger patch?  Yes, I did but I tested MC prior to reinstalling (no Life TV) and I unchecked the 'allow messenger' under MC's settings.

I'll try the 'how to fix' link you provided and let you know how I get on.  I'm assuming I can just dump those instructions into a batch file and just run it.

I tried the suggestion above, didn't reboot and started up MediaCenter ... selected My TV and then Live TV ... whirly thing whirled for a little bit (more that I have been seeing) and then nothing - no error message, nothing.

Is there a log file I can check?

Try Setting up TV signal again from settings. If that does not work try MCE Repair:
