DMA2100 -- Volume level differrent Live TV and Ripped DVD/HDHR Live TV

All, I ma attempting to figure out why the volume is so different between normal Live TV (from my SD cable boxes) and my ripped DVDs (mp3/AC3 5.1 usually)/HD LiveTV via HDHR. Its a big enough difference if you swicth from SD LivreTV to DVD/HDHR its very loud.

I am assuming it has something to do with the AC3 sound but am not sure. On my actual PC the sound seems about them same for all feeds.

I am using the DMA2100 and the sound is coming out of the RCA R/L connectors -- The video is via HDMI. I have a second DMA2100 that feeds to an old SD TV and it has the same issue. Again, sound is via RCA connectors (and in this case video too).

    Any ideas?

I'm still trolling the forums but nothing has come up exactly like this -- I may see if the AC3Decoder fix works otherwise I ma out of ideas.

    Cheers, Tony.

I have the same problem.  everything from Live TV and Recorded TV is much lower in volume than my AVI files

And no its not because I have the sound set to output 5.1 when the TV is only stereo.

I have no idea how to fix it.  Most of the time I watch Live TV with the volume on Max on the TV

"And no its not because I have the sound set to output 5.1 when the TV is only stereo. "

Can you explain this -- perhaps this is what I am doing. I have noticed that anything with AC3 5.1 is quiet. Anything with plain stereo is loud. Live TV from teh cable box is plain stero. HDHR I am assuming in 5.1. Also on DVDs I see the same -- those with 5.1 are quiet. Those with just stero are loud.

Is it possible to set up an extender to use AC3filter? I am assuming the exender does its own audio processing but am not sure.

Are there any tools to let me know EXACTLY what the recorded track is encoded with? Mainly MPEG tracks for me ... so gspot will not work (I think).

    Sigh.

OK, I think I am slowly getting to the root of this issue. See the following explanation about AC3 vs 'normal' sound:

Of course I have no idea how to correct it but I think perhaps I am starting to understand it.

Did you ever get this solved? I really need some sound leveling on my 2100 in the bedroom. The difference between 5.1 and 2 is huge. Seeing that I have only the tv in the bedroom and no audio gear. 2.0 would be preferable. The settings on the VMC do not carry over to the 2100.

Same issue HD volume LOW SD volume HIGH.  Prior to updating firmware on 2100 there was no volume on HD only SD.  Then updated firmware and got sound but very low on HD.

Same problem here, have never been able to fix it.  HD recodings from TV barely audible at full volume.  output from extender set to stereo.

AVI recodings only need volume at about 30%

Nothing I have tried has fixed it.  It is clearly a software problem somewhere.  Who knows where

Re: DMA2100 -- Volume level differrent Live TV and Ripped DVD/HDHR Live TV

Maybe I am crazy, but after I switched from component and audio L & R cables to an HDMI cable, the problem seems to have gone away.  HD TV show volume levels are now around 30%, the same that SD shows and DVD movies are.

Have any of you tried HDMI?

    Same for me, with HDMI.

I understand that the "incoming" recording volume may be lower from the HDHR, but there has to be a way to normalize it.

    ACraigL:

The linksys should normalize it?  How would the recording be lower from the HDHR?  Doesn't it play at normal volume levels on the HTPC itself?

I am wanting to hook up another extender, but am curious why some of us have/had this issue so I can remedy it before ordering more.

I don't see that many complaints about volume levels, other than this thread, which seems odd.

Re: DMA2100 -- Volume level differrent Live TV and Ripped DVD/HDHR Live TV

I have the same volume differences on my main htpc.  From what I understand, vista does not offer any volume leveling within media center.
