    chrisboedy:
I'll poke around and see if I can come up with anything. In the meantime, have you tried going back through TV setup to see if it helps?
I just did and while it restored the About Guide Listings button, I still can't record anything. The funny thing is that when I schedule something to record I can see the red button and the comment bellow that says "This item will record." If I try to record something already on I see the three fading red buttons and the same message about it "Will record." Seems like something in VMC has no idea what date or time it is and sees any recording as being scheduled in the future, but has no idea when that future has arrived. I'm stumped because the time on my PC is fine and the Guide knows what time it is because it displays properly. Whatever trigger is supposed to be reading the system clock is obviously not working. And my Guide listings go back to the 17th and and on the 31st. ??????

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

Your headend hasn't finished processing yet then. Some headends might not complete until tomorrow late afternoon to evening. I'd suggest we revisit this once you're guide data is up to date just to rule that out.

Once you get the updated data, let me know if you are still experiencing this and I'll help get you to the right person to help. I'd recommend starting a new thread for the issue after tomorrow if you're still seeing it.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

I was able to manually update last night 10PM ET (Comcast Digital, 02053). Thanks Chris, but to second another comment, I too have had sporadic updates over the last month. 8/13-8/17 there were no updates and therer were many gaps of 3-4 days previous to that. Any thoughts? Would you expect this fix to make updates more reliable?

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

My guide was in the same state this morning as yesterday, however, I did a manual "get latest guide" and it's all good now.  Thanks chrisboedy!

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

My guide data updated because I did a manual update, but much of it is generic data.  Like MLB Baseball, but not who is playing, even a few days out.  Are you sure all the data is up to date!  Also, we missed a few recaps with Olympic athletes because the data was not up to date until now!!  Major bummer!!!!!

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

@RogueWarrior:  I don't see the same issue on my MC.  I checked a bunch of "MLB Baseball" games and they're all showing the teams.  If you provide a specific game (date/time) you're seeing no data on I can check for it.  (Keep in mind that I don't have MLB Extra Innings.)

From what chrisboedy was saying about some headends not having updated while others had (above), I suppose it's possible the guide data could be "broken" on one headend (the one you update from), but is ok on another (the one I update from).  Perhaps he could tell us how to differentiate which headend our respective MCs are using?  Is it simply down to postal code?

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

The easiest way to tell is to look at your "About Guide Listings" in Tasks -> Settings -> TV -> Guide

It will tell you a start time, and end time.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

@chrisboedy: To clarify, the issue is resolved as far as I'm concerned (see post #288290, above).  Thanks again for sorting this out so quickly.

My reply (#288308) was intended to help RogueWarrior, whose (apparently updated) listings are incomplete/inaccurate.  I thought that perhaps he was updating from a headend which was somehow broken, one different from the one from which I'm updating (which again, appears fine).

Anyway, I'm not at home to check, but I assume that WebGuide reads these very same values.  According to it...
    Guide start: 8/24/2008 8:00:00 PM
    Guide end: 9/8/2008
This info helps you determine the headend from which I'm updating?  If he provides similar data could you determine which is the "broken" headend?  If not, what other info can we provide?

Anyway, I'm just trying to help out a fellow user.  This could very well be an isolated situation.

    All the best.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

The reason I suggested checking the start time / end time is to see if the headend being used has been updated yet. This doesn't suggest the headend is "broken", but points out that it's not yet been processed through our system. As I stated before,

I'd asked that everyone please wait until the 24 hours before reporting continued decrease in guide data. Someones headend has to be last unfortunately, and that may strike around that timeframe.

First off, I am sick and tired of typing out lengthy posts and having them disappear due to a 404 error when I hit Post. Something is going on with this site in that regard and it needs to be fixed. The only way I could get this posted was to quote a previous post then click edit and paste my lost post (whgich I copied into Notepad after losing the first one) into it.

I awoke this morning expecting that the Guide had downloaded and my problems solved, but it was not to be. The Guide did update, but in looking at the Guide Listings info page I noticed that the dates had changed from 8/17-8/31 to 8/17-9/7. If Guide info is downloaded in 2 week blocks why do I have a 3 week date period? I then tried to record a current program. Nothing. The Guide still says "This program will record" but it should already be recording.

Something is broken with my MC and it has nothing to do with my unauthorized installation of TV Pack because it was working fine long after 8/9 when I did that. Whatever is causing this problem happened in the last week and coincides with my having lost all my Guide data. Could it possibly have anything to do with MC downloads not yet being TV Pack aware?

Whatever the cause, it looks like I am going to have to reinstall Vista and the headache that entails. I am not a happy camper.

    CycleWriter,

I'm sorry you are having difficulty posting. We've had this reported by one other user as well and I will be sure we investigate further.

In regard to you not being happy with the result of installing unsupported software on your machine, passing the blame elsewhere won't get you the help you're after. We are here answering poeples questions to the best of our ability.

This thread is specific to guide data availability. If you have another specific issue, I would suggest you post a new thread detailing your setup and your problem.

Who's passing any blame? Like I said, MC was working fine long after the TV Pack install and I was very happy with it. It stopped working at or near the time I started having Guide problems, which was last week. I have been clear about that and my setup is in my sig. If you are now saying it isn't a Guide problem then please tell me how you reached that conclusion.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

I'm not discounting the possibility of it being related to your guide, I'm just trying to isolate the problem. Since you're now saying you have new guide data, and you are still seeing the issue, my expectation is that your issue is not related.

The information you provided in regard to the dates of your "About Guide Listings" makes me curious. I think I've seen this before and would be a good place to start investigating. As I said, a new thread needs to be created to track your issue as it seems very specific to the functionality of the UI and not the guide data.

You stated your alternate solution is the headache of reinstalling your OS and that made you an unhappy camper. This is what I was referring to in regard to suggesting that somehow you were forced into this situation.

Please create a new thread for your issue and I will see if I can find someone on the team who can look into the specifics of what you are reporting. Be sure to include all the information you have here, specifically the guide data dates.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    Hi,

Just wanted to let the group know that my guide updated automatically overnight.  I now have listings through 9/7/08.

I hope everyone who is still having issues get them cleared up soon.

    Jeff
