Wondering when that update will be available, because otherwise if you DO upgrade to Fiji you can't record content on your Cable card tuner.

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack

That may be the reason for the delay; MS has to ship the RTM software to ATI so they can update the firmware.  At any rate, it's always part of a Microsoft release to ship to the OEMs first so they can test and incorporate the release into their products.  I didn't see anything official that would say that no one else will get it.

That's not true.. can't say more then that... but this information is wrong, and is part of the problem here, some people are just posting things without any facts and it's spreading and causing all this chaos.. Please, if you don't know what you're talking about please don't post...

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack

Wow, just read this thread. I didn't mean to cause any confusion. I re-read my first post and I think everything is there. The TV Pack isn't tied to CableCard as some think for some reason.

As a system builder, if we offer new features, then of course we can talk about it. What would be the point of offering new features if we couldn't tell anyone?? :)

I can only speak on behalf of S1Digital though. I can't speak on behalf of other OEMs and what their intentions are.

Also, I have no idea when the next DCT firmware update will be unfortunately.

I certainly agree there's an abundance of incorrect information, and I don't want to continue down this path so it's best just to leave it that I'm not posting without facts.  Are you sure you didn't upgrade the hardware when you upgraded to Fiji?  I know you can't answer that, but please don't imply that people are posting without facts when you don't know if they are indeed doing so.  I know it's hard to be helpful when no one can say anything, so let's just put this on hold until everyone can speak freely.

    Paul,

Thanks for replying.  Can you expand on this statement?

    S1Digital:

S1Digital will soon be including Windows Media Center TV Pack on NEW systems (only).

Just curious if existing owners of DCT-enabled S1 Digital systems will or won't be able to update to the TV Pack?

    S1Digital:

    • Ability to watch non copy protected recorded TV on other PCs (that have to have the TV feature pack installed though)

Since we won't be able to install the TV Pack on other PC's, that's a pretty useless feature isn't it?

The question I'd like answered, and I'm sure everyone else going forward, is the following.

Given that the TV Pack further enhances the "Ultimate" in Windows Vista Ultimate, at some point will the retail package include the TV Pack, or, will the retail "Ultimate" be less ultimate than the OEM "Ultimate"?

The public information points to retail ultimate being less than OEM ultimate, but if you read between the lines of what the NDA guys are saying there seems to be something else.  They say they can't talk about it because of the NDA so we don't know if it's just the public release of the OEM update or if there is extra features that are coming in an additional release. Whatever is coming the NDA still applies to it.

I personally believe that we will be getting some sort of public release that includes all the features of the TV Pack + somemore stuff.  But I also thought that the ATI OCUR would eventually make it to retail.

I would like to believe, and I really hope this is the case, that Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008 is what has been launched to the OEMs - as it gives them what they seem to have been promised for July and in time for CEDIA in September, and that the Windows Media Center Feature Pack 2008 is what might be coming as a general public release around the end of September / beginning of October in time for Media Center's birthday.

Obviously this is my own opinion and have no proof of this as I am / was not a beta tester in this cycle.

I have this feeling that we are all in for a huge disappointment, those of us who did not buy OEM systems.

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack

As long as the TV Pack comes out by September for us non-OEM people, so I can watch the Terminator series in HD, I'll be ok.  If there's no update by then.....  Well, it won't be pretty.

From what S1 has said, if you bought an OEM system your are double hosed.  Sinced not only do you not get this update, since it's not really an update as it is a new product, but you're out the $1500+ you spent on your system.

That certainly seems to be the case for S1's company. I feel bad for those customers. I would strongly like to think that the Dell wouldn't do this to its XPS 420 customers.

If a focused company like S1 isn't or can't provide an update, your chances of Dell doing so are less then .000001%.
