RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Please forgive me for not reading all 30+ pages of this topic. I have however read the FAQ and am unsure if this will work for me and how to set it up if it does. All I want to do is use the M$ IR unit as an IR extender with the IR flashers. I only need to control two additional devices and will be using a Harmony remote to control them. Basically I just want the M$ unit to resend all IR commands through the IR flashers. Will this work and how do I set up HIP to do so?

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I must say I am getting bored getting to the end of this thread too!!

For Hip specific support you are better off using this forum:
    http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showforum=44

This scenario is not as easy as it seems.  Apart from the fact that the MCE remote sending capabilities are pretty weak, if the devices you wish to use do not use IR codes that are compatible with the MCE Remote, it will not work (they must be based around the same Philips chipset).  If they are compatibile, then it is a simple enough matter to get Hip to resend the IR Commands on, but I think that that a dedicated IR Relay system would be much more efficient.  If the devices are in separate rooms (but are connected via a LAN), then you can use something like the IR Trans (www.irtrans.com) which runs on their own network port and may be controlled directly via simple TCP/IP commands and has excellent IR send and receive properties.

If you want to give more information about exactly what you want to accomplish, and the physical and hardware setup you will be using, I may be able to give you some more tips.

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Has anyone got the driver to work with windows 64 bit edition?

I am not very good at coding, so my question is, can the source code be changed recompiled so it also works with x64?

As I have search the net, there are a lot of people looking for a way to use the remote with x64 system.

    Can any one help please?

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hello!

I try to send IR-signals to my Philips Garbo beamer by MCE-Remote plugin.
learning and sending commands works fine (IR-LED is flickering when playing learned files) but there is no reaction of the beamer at all.

I teached the IR signal to the MCE Remote (volume button) and the beamer reacts as it should.

Using MceIrPlay.exe the beamer does not react at all.

I put the IR-Diode (sender) directly to the IR-Receiver of the Beamer, tried to learn again, but nothing helps.
    Have you any tips?

I got two files attached: test.txt and learned.irk

You have to rename the learned.txt to learned.irk as I could not upload a .irk file.

The .txt is ir-code from the internet for my projector that should toggle power (I am not very shure about it, because there are very few informations about code for my Philips Garbo Projector in the net).

(Is there anybody who got the same beamer and codes for it?)

The second one is learned by the mce-plugin from my projectors remote (also toggle power). Playing these through the blaster has no effect on the beamer.

The thing that confuses me most is:
I played them through the blaster and tried to teach the signal to the TV-Button of the MCE Remote. It allways flashes 4 times what means: can't learn the sequence. (I tried both, the learned one and the one from the net)
When I teach the MCE Remote directly from the Projectors remote it works without problems.

Therer are two possible explanaitions for me for this phenomenon:
Hardware defect (of the MCE receiver/Blaster) or
The Code is somehow special and cannot be handled by the MCE receiver.

So if there is someone out there who can do it:

please try to teach one or two of the files to the MCE Remote (By using MCE plugin and IR Balster). If you succeed something is wrong with my installation or my hardware

@the Gurus: Have a look at the files, is this special, unusual code? (I'm just a newbe in this...)

    Thanks for your answer

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I have installed the driver and HIP+MCE plugin, but either MceIrPlay or HIP Ir Test works sending Ir-commands to any other devices.
The learning part works (only pressing the remote button once) and the IR-eye flashes when testing sending commands.
But nothing happens on the other device!

    What's wrong? Why?

ps. the MCE remote buttons no longer starts MCE, so the keymap is lost. This must mean that the new driver is loaded? .ds

Q: Is there any other way to use the ir-blaster to send ir-commands but with mce drivers?

    Cheers

    Hey!

I solved this!  The red-eye needs to be very very close too the receiving devices.
So my idea to start my iRobot Roomba resolute in that my Roomba had to move to the other side of the room, now living next door to mr HTPC.

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I'm not able to install the MceIrApi driver at all. I've tried the driver from the link on the first page and also the one that one comes with the HIP full package. When I try to update the driver, I just get a message that says a suitable driver could not be found. I do have the v2 remote, so I'm not sure what's up with this. Any ideas?

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

You have to use: Have Disk and then point out the directory, for the driver to been found!
It dont work just point out the directory.

Select: Dont search, Next, Have Disk.... and so on

    Cheers

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Help, please!!

You guys have a great concept going here. I hope someone can help me troubleshoot.

I've installed MCEIR and driver, no glitches. Everything seems to be working fine, IR commands are learned successfully. LED's flash appropriately. But no matter what I do the blasters will not control any of the 3 AV components I have tried. I have tried repositioning all over the place, even cracked my receiver case open and put the blaster right on the IR reciever... no luck.

Anyone that could help with this, would be much appreciated.

P.S. Think I have read most of the 34 pages of this thread. Can't figure out what could be wrong.

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Finally got it....I was doing it the regular "have disk" way. I had never used the other "don't search" method.

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    hi,

i just got a v2 mce remote and i tried to use these 2 blasters via girder3 & the mce remote plugin. (i have mce2005 with rollup2)

but i always get "record failed". i also tried to use mceirrec -> also "record failed".

the remote itself works fine, but i can´t learn any cmds for use with the 2 blasters.

do i have to install the drivers, too or is that optional? (since i also have the remote keyboard i have to stick with the original drivers).

    pls help.

    thx
    chris

ps: another question: i also tried to use my onkyo-remote (from my amp) to "teach" girder the ir-cmds for later controling the amp via blaster, but the ir-reciever doesn´t seem to recieve those cmds (red led doesn´t blink). are onkyo-remote incompatible with the ms mce ir-reciever?

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Will the default eHome IR driver provide any button functionality under Windows XP SP2 ?

If so, what buttons will work?

If I need to use the replacement driver, will the remote still have its original button configuration, or do all the buttons have to be reprogrammed using Hip?

Also, later on I am thinking of buying the Harmony 680 MCE remote. ( This remote works with Mce "out of the box"). Will this remote have the same button functionality as the reprogrammed MCE remote, or will the buttons have to be reprogrammed also?

Sorry for so many questions, i'm a newbie to this remote control stuff

Thanks, and keep up the great work guys !!

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hello,

first, I'am new here. I want to use the excellent tool HIP with my xpMCE2005 and my MS MCE IR Remote v2 (VENID_0471, PID_0815)
Unfortunately, the mceir driver (v5.1.2600.1106), bundled with the HIP full download version, will not run. Have installed with the "have disk" method exactly as described here: http://www.byremote.com.au/Hip/mce_remote_faq.htm

But the driver "MCE Infrared Remote Control" will always be tagged with the yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. Error: "the device driver for this hardware could not be loaded. ..."
So I've installed KB912024 v2. No change. Then I've removed xpMCE's Rollup 2. No change. Next have mceir driver removed against the MS driver. Ok, Remote was useable again, but the double acknoweledgement for every pressed key also was back. Next installed the mceir driver again -> same problem, driver can't be loaded.

    Does anybody know help?
    Regards, Harry.

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    HI!

Bravo to the programmers of this driver!

I read almost the entire set of messages in this thread and was very excited to make it home and try out this driver.

I followed the install intructions completely (they are pretty easy).
When I click on "have a disk" and select the location (c:\MceIrApi\mceir.inf) and the mceir.inf file, it says the specified location does not contain information about your hardware.

    So,
I fired up usbview for windows and checked the product and vend id and it is the same as listed in the inf file !!!! (i'm bummed at this point)
I also checked in the hardware section and it lists it as the Microsoft ehome infrared transceiver and hardware ids as vid_0471&pid_0815&rev_0000
    vid_0471&pid_0815
I am running windows xp SP2 (not MCE).
I have tried uninstalling the current driver.
I have tried right-clicking on the INF file and install (nothing seems to happen).

    This seems really strange.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    thank you!!

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok, I installed it on my laptop using the directions given.  I had never connected this device to my laptop (mce2005 ir blaster phillips).
So, when it asked for the drivers, I gave it the ones from here.
    it worked just fine.
I use the learn program and it learns consistently (I had it learn my scientific atlanta 3500 cable box pressing button number 2).
I had it save to 4 different files so I could check for consistent reception.  sometimes it recorded 2 or three repeats, but it still got the same pattern (yay!!!!!!).
when I have it play back those files, it make the transciever flash (good I think).
But, it does not change my cable box (HHHHMMMMMM!)

    UPDATE.........
ok, we have another set top box with pvr and the remote for that box works on this box also.
So, I tried learning from that remote and then getting it to transmit through the blaster to this box and it still does nothing!!!! the transmitter flashes but nothing changes.
at this point i am very frustrated and more than a little sick of trying.  Been doin this for two months now trying to get a solution between either mediaportal or myth tv and nothing controls this darn microsoft mce blaster (or maybe it is but it sure is not controling my stb).

You would think that a scientific atlanta settopbox would be fairly common (after all, I know kansas city Time warner uses them and thats a lot of people).

I pretty much give up at this point.
