Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Hello anyone...? HIP works great, but... QWERTY part of MCE keyboard stops working when installing the MCE replacement driver ("eHome"). What to do, go back to original eHome driver and give up on HIP, or anything to do to fix this?

Thank you for this information.  Will this work with Vista as well?

Going through this process now in Vista.  How would I get this to work with Beyond TV?

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I have a problem just getting the driver installed in the first place.  I'm running XP professional.  I have the MCE remote that comes with Hauppauge PVR500MCE cards.  It's an RC6..
Problem is, I go to update/install the driver and it keeps telling me "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware."  I've tried irbus and mcir.  Pointed it to the directories.  Chose to "have disk" and force it.  No matter which route I take, I end up with the same error.  Is there something I'm not doing here?  Like is there a preliminary installer I'm missing somewhere?
Or is this remote only going to work in XP MCE?

    thanks-

    Hello everybody,

Some time ago, opusnut ask you for this problem:

"Once i install the MCEIR driver, i can't watch live tv in MCE anymore. I get an error message saying MCE cant find my IR transmitter. "

I have tested MCEIR and it would be a wonderful solution if there were a solution to this question.

    So, is there a solution?

    Thank you for your reply.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hi guys,

can someone please tell me if there is an alternate universal mce remote driver available for vista32.

Ive tried using the current alternate driver in vista and although the driver seems to install correctly, it doesnt work. No key presses are working in HIP or Girder.

It works great in mce2005 though, but not vista32.

    thanks in advance

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I know of one but it only works with ir2 on my dule blaster.  Other dule blaster supposedly work fine.  If you only have one STB it will work perfect with HIP.  I dont know if I am aloud to post links to other forums so PM me if you want a link to where you can get it.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hey guys,

Read the thread and had a go at installing girder and the mceir software but am completely baffled by whats going on, which is odd cus I can usually get to grips with most things with a bit of fiddling around!

I have a Sony XL301 which has a remote supplied with it (RM-MCE20E) that is RC6 compatible and the unit has two remote blaster ports on the rear.  I use one of the ports to control sky via a direct connection blaster which is ideal, however, I would love to use the other blaster port to control my Creative 5.1 system via the volume keys on the Sony MCE remote.  This is due to the AC3 passthrough not being controlled by the internal volume on MC.

I presume from what I have read that this is possible and the remote receiver is listed in device manager.  It is not a USB receiver, it is internal.

Any chance someone could give me a step-by step guide, I followed the FAQ on the first page of the thread but to no luck.

If I need to provide any more info please tell me and I will be as prompt as possible.

    Thanks,

    Matty

The supplied link for the MCE replacement driver no longer works. Could someone post a mirror link to rapidshare or something until the main link comes back up?

I second this question. I just got my MS remote today and followed the instructions... everything works great except MCE not detecting the IR blaster. Are the newest remotes just not in the sys yet... or what could be the prob? Thanks!

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Take a look at my post from 5/25/06.  You need a second IR receiver, then you can make one use the modified drivers, and the other the official MS drivers.

    j1mb0b:

Has anyone seen this prolem, or have any idea to get around it?

I can install BZR's new driver fine and it works using the command line tools mceirrec and mceirplay. Howver, when I go to MCE and try to show live TV it says "Set top box error.  MCE cannot control your set top bx because the infrared receiver is not connected"  Of course, it is connected.

Well I sort of found a way around this problem.  Connect a second MS blaster Big Smile [:D]

It's a long story, but I happen to have two MS remote / blaster combinations.  I just found out it's possible to change the drivers for each independently, you can set up MCE to work with one blaster as it expects, then add a second blaster and update the driver to BZR's version.  Then record all your necessary IR signals and when you play them back, they play only through the second blaster..... hey presto MCE 2005 works perfectly and I can now use the PC to control other stuff........

It only took me about 6 months to realize this would work Embarrassed [:$]

So, for anyone else looking to control other equipment AND use MCE2005, just go to newegg and buy a new remote.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Hi, everyone, we have a network attached Hybrid Tuner product, receive analog TV, Digital TV and can connect external Set-Top-Box with Composite/SVideo/Component, and streaming the encoded frames to MCE, now it works with both Analog and Digital.  Now to control the external Set-Top-Box to change channel, I am interesting to get IR RLC data from Microsoft IR PORT driver or IR Class driver, to send the RLC code to remote streaming server side (connected through Ethernet/WiFi) to control remote Set-Top-Box.

How can we get the RLC data from Port driver?

I have tried the MCEIR driver and application to record and play the IR command, but in this case, MCE will totally lost IR function.

    Thanks

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Is this really my only solution to operate two remote receiver/transmitter boxes? I've been struggling with this for a few days and also keep getting the Set Top Box error, and had to revert to the standard remote driver. I'm surprised that there isn't a solution for this. I'd really like to just use the one receiver/transmitter box and remote, and have a universal remote. My setup is the Microsoft remote and transceiver (IR blaster) controlling MCE (& STB), and I also have an iPAQ running NetRemote (quite cool s/w) that is able to control MyMusic in MCE. I just can't get either to function as a universal remote to control my other equipment via the MCE IR blaster. I've tried Girder with no success. If anyone has this working, I'd love to hear how it's done.

    Thx, ..Roger

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hi Roger.

I am using a totally different approach, but I think it would allow you to do what you want without needing a second IR receiver.  I am using an old iPAQ 3950 with TV Remote Controller 5 from pdawin.com to emulate a Philips Pronto universal remote control.  The RC is able to learn IR codes from any equipment.  Furthermore, the codes to emulate MCE keyboards and RCs are available in the libraries of RemoteCentral.com.

With this solution, I haven't needed to use any replacement drivers.  As an alternative to replacement drivers (which are apparently device-specific, judging from the exchange above) you may want the consider EventGhost, which allows you to remap keycodes to events.  In other words, it intercepts the commands in the Windows Messaging System (after the driver).  Even if my approach with the Pronot emulation doesn't appeal to you, EventGhost might enable you to get what you want using only one IR receiver.

    Regards,
    Roger

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hello

I think my problem may be that I installed the Rollup 2 update into my XP Pro system to get the MCE IR system to work, which it did some what. I could change channels on my WinTV-PVR-USB2 unit. I can't get it to change channels on my STB.

I think HIP will not function because I can't update the eHome driver with the replacement driver. Always get "the specified location doesn't contain info about your hardware". Have followed all the instructions including have disk etc.

The Device Instance ID for the eHome driver is USB\VID_1784&PID_0001\S000JL1 which doesn't match any in the mceir.inf file. Is this my problem?

    Randy
