Re: Girder MCE Remote Plugin with default MCE driver

    discostewie:
Has anybody got the girder MCE Remote Plugin to work with the default MCE driver? I can get girder to send signals but it always sends the code twice. It seems to double the ir code sent to the blaster. Meaning its impossible to turn off the power to my tv because it immediately turns back on. I know using the MceIRApi.sys driver will probably fix the issue, but I dont want to use it  because I would have reprogram all my other girder messages for the new driver when they work fine with the HID input plugin. Also i've noticed using the MceIRApi driver with girder is a bit sluggish on my computer and I end up pressing the buttons too many times in a row.

This was addressed previously in this thread, in short you need to install the MCEIR.sys.

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    btmi,

Congrats on this great MCE tweak.

Could you tell me why the defalt MCE setup appears to send the command twice.

I wanted to make sure the basics worked first and then make changes. I installed HIP, went through the wizzard and only selected MCE remote options.

Installed the MCE IR commands that came with it and thats all so far.

I start MCE and everytime I press a button, IE press the up arrow, it moves twice.

Hope you can help as I need with to get a good wife approval rating.

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Here's the lowdown -

    Need to know the following:

MCE 2005 - (2) DirectTv D11-300 STB's one is connected to an ATI 9600 AIW the second is connected to a Hauppauge MCE150 Tuner. My XBOX 360 is used for viewing the video (not the computer.)

If I get the Microsoft MCE remote, can the ir's control the STB while i watch from the 360?

Will it change the ch when it needs to record a show?

Can I use the remote that came with the 360 to change channels?

can the MS MCE remote control both STB's at the same time?

This is being done because I can not get the system to change the channels on the STB's and I hope this will fix that. Any help and I will be very greatful.

    more info below;

dish >>>multiswitch port 1>>> STB #1 >>> MCE2K5 ATI Tuner >>> XBOX 360 used to view and change Channels

dish >>>multiswitch port 2>>> STB #2 >>> MCE2K5 MCE-150 Tuner  connected via the S - Video Connection >>> XBOX 360 used to view and change Channels

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hello

I hope you can point me in the right direction.

I am trying to set up a media center (pc showing screen saver + video)
This media center will be used to show (fish tank) screen savers and to display video.

The PC will be tucked away, so there is limmited access to keyboard and mouse.

curently These screen savers will be run by by schedualed tasks, and require to hit the "esc" to exit.
I plan to write a batch file that can kill the process.

The pc has a tv tuner, and ms media center is already installed. I have the MCE remote control as well

    My challenge.

The norm will be showing screen saver.
However at times i would like ms media center to be used.
    However before switching to
media center, i need to kill the screen saver first (otherwise pc will freeze)
I can write a batch file to kill the screen saver.
What I need, is a way to call this batch file (that kills the screen saver)from the MS remote control, prior to going into ms media center.

I will also need the ability from the MCE remote control to exit out of media center and back to the screen saver.

    PLEASE HELP

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

sorry if this has already been addressed but the thread is pretty long and I tried searching but couldn't find the answer.

i am using girder 4.x with the mceir.dll plugin installed and using Microsoft's original irbus.sys driver.  girder recognized codes from the mce remote, which I expected.  however, it also recognized codes from other remotes, eg a Pansonic SA-XR55 receiver remote and a Harmony 880 programmed with pioneer, panasonic and streamzap devices.  this was a surprise as i thought you had to have the mceir.sys driver installed to recognize some of these other remote protocols.

i noticed in an earlier post that BurningZeRoad had stated he had found a way to make some things work with the original MS driver (see quote below).  so my questions are, is the girder plugin enabling the default MS driver to recognize these codes? and if that is the case, is there any benefit to having mceir.sys installed when using girder?

i also notice that using the Harmony 880 programmed with other remote codes can be a little flaky.  eg, some streamzap commands take about a second to be recognized by girder and some of the "pioneer" buttons send the same remote code to girder (girder recognizes both number 6 & 7 as code 42657).  however, this could be the Harmony's fault or incorrect codes in the Harmony database.

    BurningZeRoad:
    Hi Pallismn !

Your post was too early : I just found the way to do EXACTLY the same things using the original MS driver ! looooooooooollllllll
This just means that this thread can leave the hacks category...
and also that you can remove all the driver stuff from the long story !

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Hello guys, this is my first post here. First I want to say thx to BurningZeRoad for amazing nice driver/plugin. I’m kind of new to stuff like this so I’m having some problems getting it to work properly.
    First my setup:
    * I have ver. 2.0 MCE remote control with RC 6 on the back of the remote (Phillips chip)
    * I have MCE transmitter connected to my PC with USB and drivers ver 0.18.
    * I have ir-emitter placed 30 cm from TV, DVD and Receiver with clear sight.

    What I can do:
    * Receive and record IR signals from all my remotes, both in HIP and Girder.
    * I can record any IR code from all my IR remotes that I have in house

    What I can’t do:
    * I can’t play them back using MceIrPlay.exe or Girder or HIP. On software side evrething looks good and it says signal send and so on, nothing happens.

Emitter connected to port #2 flashes red and that’s it. TV, DVD, XBOX does not react to the IR signal send from the transmitter. First I thinked it was something with girder, then with the plugin but now it looks like it just wont send any IR signals ?... I have tried from many distance and it looks like it just wont send anything or nothing of it are understood by my tv or dvd or hifi or receiver. I have emmiter placed from 1 cm to 2m from my TV and still nothing happens.

Another problem that in Girder I don't see MCE on the action's list and can’t understand how I can send IR signal back from Girder to the TV or DVD.

I spend all night testing and could not find a way how to send anything back from my MCE-IR. So I have opened it to take a look what was inside. And it does have Phillips chip so I guess it is a standard MCE IR s/r. I’m including pictures of my IR transmitter board maybe it can help to solve this mystery.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    hello,

I want to use 2 default mce receivers connected via USB. Default, there is only support for one receiver. I want to use both simultaniously.

Can this be done with the replacement driver in combination with HIP ? Do ALL the buttons work then.

Is there a tutorial somewhere ?

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

How do you teach the MCE ir-blaster two, three og four-digit ir commands with this plug-in and Girder (channel 10 or 101 for instance)? I can only teach the ir-blaster one-digit keypresses from my Dreambox satellite receiver's remote.

I use Showshifter as htpc software (due to its MPEG4 on-the-fly recording and multiple signal input ability). In order to have Showshifter change channels on my Dreambox, I must use third party software (Girder in my case), as Showshifter doesn'thave a built-in ir-blaster function. Instead, it has a command line function connected to each channel. Thus I can call on Girder to execute a commadthat can trigger the ir-blaster whenever I change to a given channel in Showshifter. But as mentioned, I am stuck with channels 0-9 for which I have created 10 commands.

Unforunately, it's not possible to combine any two, three- or four of the ten commands to one multicommand, wich wouls solve the problem. If I do this, only the first command (and digit) is executed.

Please, if any Girder (or other third party software) user has any ideas, let me know. I have already tried the Girder forum.

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Hi I have been using HIP and the MCE blaster etc with great results. However I decided to do a clean install and saved all my config that I had created for HIP.

I had configured my MCE Remote to simulate an AMP remote etc, and had created the remote in the edit IR signals config page.

But it appears as though part of the HIP config is not saved when you actually save a config file...

So my question is HOW do you save any remotes you create in HIP?

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

@BurningZeRoad: Are you planning on updating your dll for Vista?  I started working on a homebrew application for the Nintendo DS (NDS) that will act as VMC remote control.  After I get that working well I'd like to incorporate your dll to allow the NDS to work as a universal remote as well.

Vista setup - Girder vs. Hip, Original vs. Replacement driver

    Hi guys, a quick question:

my goal is to have an incomming IR command to trigger a macro of 5-7 IR commands beamed through MCE blasters to TV and receiver. I am using Vista Ultimate.

    Which setup should I do:
    - HIP or Girder
    - Original or Replacement driver?

    Thanks,
    Ross

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    MarcelXL:
    Hello,

I'm using HIP with the MCE replacement driver. I own a MCE 2005 v2 remote and the Microsoft IR beanbag (USB).

Recently I purchased the Microsoft Remote keyboard , this (very cheap) keyboard talks to the same beanbag as my MCE remote does, so this seems like a nice couple to have.

Now the problem, all keys on the keyboard who have an equivelant on the remote do work (eq. Play, forward, backwards, LiveTV etc.) , as they probably send the same IR codes. But.. the QWERTY keys don't work and also the 'mouse' built-in to the keyboard doesn't work.

Of course the keyboard works fine if I de-install the MCE replacement driver and install the old Microsoft driver, but for obvious reasons I don't want to use HIP in the 'keyboard' mode. I tried in HIP: Remote I/O , Edit IR Commands, Add IR and with the option "learn IR directly from a Remote Control" , I can record the IR commands coming from a keystroke on the remote keyboard, but I cannot get these to work in the application configuration of HIP.

Is it something I should figure out in HIP or is it a problem related to the alternative driver? Anyone got these QWERTY/numberkeys/'mouse' on the Microsoft Remote keyboard to work in the combination HIP/MCE replacement driver and/or can point me in the right direction? Or other suggestions perhaps to achieve the desired functionality.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, any solution to how to use MS MCE keyboard w HIP? As described above, the MCE function keys work fine but not the QWERTY part of the keyboard....
