RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Once i install the MCEIR driver, i can't watch live tv in MCE anymore. I get an error message saying MCE cant find my IR transmitter. It is obviously loking for the origional driver that MCEIR replaced. Is there a work around for this????

    Thanx

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hi,

I would like to hook straight into BurningzeRoad's MCEIR driver from a .NET application so all button presses are sent to my application window... I've seen the function headers mentioned in the README (MceIrRegisterEvents / MceIrUnregisterEvents / etc.).

Does anyone have a .NET sample which does this??  I really haven't a clue as to how to do it myself :-(  C# or VB.NET would be fantastic if anyone's got anything...

Also, will doing this let my application receive all MCE button presses, ie. Power and Red/Green/Yellow/Blue and GreenButton, etc.????

    Many thanks!

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Hi guys. Is there any way to make this work on 64-bit edition of Windows? I'm really bummed that I bought a shiny new MCE remote to use with my desktop, but it seems like nothing will work

    cheers!

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I have a problem that many others seem to have trouble with as I read through the entire thread

I am using MCE as my pvr software and need my ir emitter to control my satellite box, but it seems that whenever ehRec.exe is active, and I launch girder I lose the ability to use my girder commands, and whenever I have girder already loaded, ehRec.exe has not been started yet, and I try to watch liveTV, windows MCE reports missing ir emitter
I have to reboot and resetup MCE TV everytime following this

I know the problem could possibly be with girder, but I suspect the problem is with your plugin

I would really appreciate some development towards working this out, and I do not see a donate for high levels of support option on your home page

RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I have a problem with the MCEIR.DLL (0.18) both under Girder and HIP.
It all works fine both receiving and transmitting but some times after resuming from standby the DLL stops working.
This happens say 50% of the time and going back into standby again gets it working for a little while.

Any ideas on how to resolve the problem?

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I have narrowed the issue down a bit.

The problem seems to only occur when the system wakes up from standby to record a TV program. If I manually wake up the system it is OK.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hello,

I'm using HIP with the MCE replacement driver. I own a MCE 2005 v2 remote and the Microsoft IR beanbag (USB).

Recently I purchased the Microsoft Remote keyboard , this (very cheap) keyboard talks to the same beanbag as my MCE remote does, so this seems like a nice couple to have.

Now the problem, all keys on the keyboard who have an equivelant on the remote do work (eq. Play, forward, backwards, LiveTV etc.) , as they probably send the same IR codes. But.. the QWERTY keys don't work and also the 'mouse' built-in to the keyboard doesn't work.

Of course the keyboard works fine if I de-install the MCE replacement driver and install the old Microsoft driver, but for obvious reasons I don't want to use HIP in the 'keyboard' mode. I tried in HIP: Remote I/O , Edit IR Commands, Add IR and with the option "learn IR directly from a Remote Control" , I can record the IR commands coming from a keystroke on the remote keyboard, but I cannot get these to work in the application configuration of HIP.

Is it something I should figure out in HIP or is it a problem related to the alternative driver? Anyone got these QWERTY/numberkeys/'mouse' on the Microsoft Remote keyboard to work in the combination HIP/MCE replacement driver and/or can point me in the right direction? Or other suggestions perhaps to achieve the desired functionality.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I have installed HIP amd the MCE driver.  All appears to work fine; HIP is catching the IR singnals as I hoped.  I can navigate the menu inside MCE.

But now the LiveTV menu option gives a STB box error when selected.   It appears that MCE can not acess the blaster to control my STB.

Did I miss something in the install?

I'm sorry if the is a repeat question, but I search this (and other) threads and didn't see an  anwers.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Hey everyone great thread to begin with

I'm a serious newb when it comes to this, so if my questions are rudimentary at best lemme apologize now. I've read through a couple of the pages of the thread, and i successfully recorded and played back codes to my MCE v2 remote. I was trying to turn my TV (samsung lcd) on and off using the app. The thing im confused about is what button is it mapped to on the mce remote? i pressed every button on the remote after doing it, but it didn't turn the tv on. according to the faq, i don't need girder/hip to teach my remote codes. if anyone could help me out id appreciate it. Also i tried using the mceir driver, but it wouldn't install. im not sure how to update the .ini file to allow installation my mce remote id is
    USB\VID_0609&PID_031D\SM002ZWN

    thanks!

    going quad soon

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    j1mb0b:

Has anyone seen this prolem, or have any idea to get around it?

I can install BZR's new driver fine and it works using the command line tools mceirrec and mceirplay. Howver, when I go to MCE and try to show live TV it says "Set top box error.  MCE cannot control your set top bx because the infrared receiver is not connected"  Of course, it is connected.

Well I sort of found a way around this problem.  Connect a second MS blaster Big Smile [:D]

It's a long story, but I happen to have two MS remote / blaster combinations.  I just found out it's possible to change the drivers for each independently, you can set up MCE to work with one blaster as it expects, then add a second blaster and update the driver to BZR's version.  Then record all your necessary IR signals and when you play them back, they play only through the second blaster..... hey presto MCE 2005 works perfectly and I can now use the PC to control other stuff........

It only took me about 6 months to realize this would work Embarrassed [:$]

So, for anyone else looking to control other equipment AND use MCE2005, just go to newegg and buy a new remote.

    j1mb0b,

Pardon me, but how exactly did you fix your problem? I have an exact problem and a spare blaster laying around. How do you tell MCE to blast to one ir only? Can you please provide step by step solution if possible. Thanks in advance.

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Simply plug in the second blaster, then go to your device manager.  You should find two listings for the eHome IR receiver in the USB controllers section.  Use the instructions for updating the drivers given in this thread for the second blaster (in my case, it was the second entry in the device manager, but no guarantee your's will be the same).  Once you restart, MCE will be using the original blaster to control your STBs, and the second blaster will be using the new drivers and you can control it from HIP or whatever using the MCEIRPLAY / MCEIRREC from BZR.  No magic involved really.  I didn't have to tell it anything about which to use.

I'm guessing the only thing that may trip you up is finding the correct entry in the device manager list.  If it doesn't work one way, then try reversing the entries.

Re: RE: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    j1mb0b,
Oops, just plugged in the second blaster and still don't see any new eHome Infrared Receiver... By the way, did you mean to plug in the blaster (the small little red bud thing) or the IR Receiver (larger thing that hooks up directly to the USB) in order for this to work? If you mean the IR Receiver, then I guess I have misunderstood you. Please confirm. Thanks
