Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

The first time I got it to work I had to download a fresh cert to the 360.  When I cloned it, it didn't work.  The only thing is, it only worked for 1 day then the next it started to play and froze.  After that codec error.  uninstalled/reinstalled (incl reg edits) several times.. nothing.

Also vista 64 ult, no AV / Firewall software (fresh install).

works fine in ie7 32b etc etc.

On Vista 64 I was watching a download movie from Netflix with vmcNetFlix in full screen.  I pause the movie and use alt tab to switch to Outlook to check e-mail.  When I went back to media center the movie started over from the beginning.   I could not fast forward or skip so I had to let it play till it got back to where it was.

Running Vista Ultimate 32-bit and I'm experiencing the same Codec issue others have mentioned here. I have tried rolling back to an older version of the software, uninstalling and re-installing the software. Everything works fine right up until I select "play" on the last screen. No matter what I do I get the Codec issue. Any suggestion?

    Wow...

I'm running Vista 32-bit and have yet to encounter problems. I've been running this plugin for a week now and haven't experienced any issues. I will say that I'm using Arcsoft software, and it installed ffdshow... so maybe that is my saving grace. Dunno.

Nope, I've had ffdshow installed from the beginning.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

Vista 64.  Not a fresh install, but a very new HTPC and this is my first MC plugin.  Plays Watch Now fine in both IE7 and Media Center on the PC.  I have two extenders, a DMA2100 and Xbox 360.  Both give me the codec error after cloning and attempting to play.  Also takes probably 5 minutes for initial startup.  Started to uninstall, and even though both extenders are turned off, it complains about VMC NetFlix Download Manager running.  I've tried numerous times on the DMA2100 but gave up after one try on the Xbox 360.  There are no logs being written for either Extender user account to send in.  I'm thinking this is some type of widespread issue since the web page doesn't even mention codec errors in the troubleshooting.  I'm going to kill a service or reboot to complete the uninstall/reinstall, but I'm not expecting to get this to work.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

    New bug here.

I can run Vmcnetflix on the media center machine but  not on the extender.  I noticed when it stopped working i had to login to the MCE machine and when i launched a movie i received a popup window asking for my Netflix login and i was able to start watching movies again on the MCE machine.  Oddly enough i was always able to explore movies and add to queue and everything else that would take a login but the videos wouldn't play until i got a new window (which i've never seen before).

Now i went into the extender setup for vmcnetflix and re-entered my username and password there yet now nothing works on the extender even though i can browse and login.  I'm betting the extender is getting that popup window to login or something else.

Should i just remove & re-insall the app?  Is there a quota that triggers deeper authentication?  We've been watching a LOT of content.

Out of curiosity, could this very same application framework be adapted to allow Hulu.com playback support on MCE?

You might want to check out this thread for that.

If they decided to block that one, I bet they'd do the same to any other.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

More on my issues from a few posts above--the uninstall/reinstall makes no difference.  The only clue I see is when the player crashes on the codec error (asking to reinitialize), if I click "yes", it briefly pops up a Windows error relating to crashing the "Media Center Extensibility Host".  The only thing I can find on the x64 host is a error in the media center log in event viewer from McrMgr relating to the extender trying to open an "unauthorized window".  That's probably the extensibility host error because it is a standard Windows error dialog box, and I guess those aren't allowed.

Does anybody with a new install on the current version have this working on x64?  What codec is it wanting anyway?  Since I obviously have the codec, since it plays at the host.  Is something not getting registered correctly for the extender user?

That's the error I get too (I just couldn't think of it) on Vista x32 when using the program through the Media Center on the PC.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

I just wanted to reiterate the sentiment in this thread.   "This is a GREAT add-on for VMC and Netflix.  Thank You!"  Netflix also owes Thanks for the work done here, it resulted in me becoming a new subscriber, the return of a previous subscriber and other friends likely to join, or return.  And, it's defenitely helped extend my commit to VMC in general, as I was starting to wan.

It works great on my 360, though I had a few problems up front...

    • As referenced in other posts, if you're a single disk subscriber with a single concurrent license limit, you have to be careful to use the 'Back to Browsing' button in IE playback and the 'Stop -> Done' sequence in VMC playback.  It can make for difficulties in troubleshooting if you don't, as you can lose a stream that appears running to Netflix and they won't allow you to restart for ~2 hours, regardless of local reboots, uninstalls, etc.  As other posters have stated, you have to be pretty methodical in setting this add-on up and when using on a regular basis.
    • I'm on the very edge of reliable DSL connectivity, so streaming realtime can be problematic, which when someone is troubleshooting an install, makes for difficult times as you're not sure what is happening behind the scenes.  I'd reccomend that when setting up and testing, you set the streaming bit rate to 700k, to minimize variables in play.  In fact, as some others, I usually just d/l a couple movies at a time and watch from locally stored files rather then streaming while using the 360.

Anyways, thanks again to EricL, anonprog, and anyone else that helped worked through the early builds or helped in other ways.  A dono has been sent EricL, you've been great with this.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

I am seeing the exact same thing. On my linksys 2100, I get the codec error, then when I reinitialize the player, I get the "extensibility host has stopped working" window popping up (which throws an "unauthorized window" event in the event log.)

Another issue - the same thing happened when I tried to initialize the player on my vista media center PC. Now, the plug-in is working fine on the PC, but I thought i'd try re-initializing the player on the PC to see what happened, and I got the extensibility host error.

I am also running Vista x32.

This was a working installation, until a few days ago. I am running the 1.1.1 version.

    Any ideas?

    eluttmann1:

What about having the ability to selectively remove the 1st teir categories (Browse DVD, etc.) that you don't use - for the 2nd teir are you requesting the ability to display the sort Genre categories sorted?

With beta 1.1, I switch to getting the items pre-sorted by netflix.  Right now, this only works for Genre under Watch Now and Browse DVDs - If I cannot figure out how to do this for the other categories, I'll put manual sorting back on for those.

    - EricL

Yes, Yes, and please do manual sort for Downloads
