What's changed in the new version then?

The release notes are on the my website, but here you go :)

Nothing big has changed, mostly I have written code to check for errors like type errors made by the user.
Then a PayPal button has found it's way into the program, and it works ;)

Interesting, it looks like I could use this, I'll give a it a shot over the weekend....(if the wife gives me time to play)

I really hope that you can. If you have any ideas to improve the program, then please tell me.
The best way to do that is on the forum on my website

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

Hi Wizard, this app used to work great for me (almost 200GB library, all art working in full res apart from a couple of albums coming up blank which I need to debug), but now it seems you've disabled it from adding anything other than mp3 and wma.  I have .m4a and .aac in my library (from iTunes) and .flac as well.  Now I need to roll back to the old version which I've deleted so I can't use it fully at the moment!

If you really want to verify that the file extensions are valid, try comparing them to the types listed in the registry (if you know where to look, I can't remember off hand), but I think it would be better to just remove error checking for this section.

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

    Hi dannybuoy

    That's not good :(

I didn't see that problem coming; I just wanted to be sure that the extensions were typed correct and valid.

If you want to have the older version again until I have corrected this error, then tell me, and I will send it to you :)

But I will correct this error first thing Monday, so if you can wait, I will have a new version uploaded soon.

    Have a nice weekend :)

Also, can PNG files be used rather than JPG?  I have some PNGs in some of my folders but I'm not allowed to enter cover.jpg;cover.png into the image field.

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

Yes, the next version (coming later this week) will not have any limitations on filenames/extensions.

The program will be ignoring filenames/extensions that it can't find.

The program keeps checking for invalid characters or else is will crash :)

Thanks for all your feedback, that makes the program better and better :)

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

    This seems cool.

How often does VMC clobber the art requiring it to be replaced?
I have yet to extend my testing to VMC but wmp ignores everything (acts like a virus) and clobbers art no matter what. From what I understand VMC is just an extension of wmp so I was assuming it had same problem. My only recourse was to stop using it or embed art and create backups of all arts so I can undo wmps damage.

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

    Hi Offsprung

WMP is looking on their (Microsoft) database for AlbumArt, tags etc. but you can disable that "feature" in the settings. If it is not disabled, then WMP will overwrite your own covers, tags etc.

I hope you enjoy my app. :)

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

How does this app working in a multi MCE and VMCE environment?

I've have two Vista MCEs and two XP MCEs and most of the album art is now displayed as black squares.

I've installed the app on one of my Vista PC's but wasnt sure what to do about the coverart.dat file location, so didn't go any further.

    thanks

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

First... the app. does not work on XP, because XP does not have the problem of missing AlbumArt on all tracks.

When the app. is loaded for the first time, it finds the default location for the dat file.

The dat file location should not be changed; I have planed to remove this option, because you are not the first one to ask about this field. So leave this field as it is :)

The rest should be straight forward, but ask if you have any further questions.

If you have more than one HTPC with Vista, the app. must be installed on each one of them.

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

    Thanks Wizard.

What I failed to mention was that my music is on a NAS device so can been seen by all three MCE boxes. Since the introduction of VMCE into my network the cover art on the XP machines has been lost and when playing an ablum I only got a black square displayed.

I decided to run your utility last night (prior to your reply) and it fixed all my music images. I ticked the delete option too.

Now on my XP MCE box I can see album art when playing music, and on the other Vista PC (not the one on which I ran AlbumArt) I have a nice moasic of covers!

So it seems to have worked a treat.

    Thanks again.

    Re: AlbumArt Utility

How was the performance of my app. on your network?

My own network does not work that great, so I have had very poor performance when accessing a NAS.

It’s very funny that it helped you on the XP machine, since the app. isn't designed for XP.
But I think it might be the delete option; it deletes all but the cover image?

I am glad that my app. worked out just fine for you :)

    Wizard:

Speed was ok. I did get a blank pop up box for a couple of minutes. This displayed the OK message when the run was complete.

Could be, as it was Vista MCE that lost the artwork in the first place.

I am glad that my app. worked out just fine for you :)

    Thanks again.
