I don't think anyone has reported getting XVID and AC3.

All of my movies were encoded in xvid with AutoGK and have the original AC3 audio.  They all play fine.

I haven't tried AutoGK in awhile, but I'll give it a shot.

Does it use presets?  If so, what preset are you using?
What is the size of an average movie?

    thanks

You'll have to set the settings, but they should be remembered from then on.  There are no pre-sets per say.

I tell it to use xvid, original AC3, width of 720, and 75% quality.  Size depends on the movie, but they are usually 1.4 - 2.0 GB each.

I get AC3 playback over HDMI too, although I do not try and output to 5.1, only through my TV speakers.

I use the following settings to encode in AutoGK:

    Target quality 86%

    XVID codec

    Auto width

In advance settings no crop (threshold set to o).

I typically get an AVI of about a third of the VOB file size.

Re: DMA2100 and DivX / XviD - cannot play after 4CC change

I may be missing something here - I've got the same problem (xvid encoded AVI files will not play) but using 4cc changer does not seem to have helped.

I'm running the latest DMA2100 firmware and when I try to play an xvid encoded AVI it takes a while to switch from the video library to the individual video details and then when I press play it shows a blank black screen.  Sometimes I can use the green button to get back to other MCE features, sometimes the extender hangs and I have to power down to get it to restart.

After pressing various buttons (in a fairly random sequence) I did get one video to play on the extender but I have not been able to repeat this.

I can play the videos ok on my MCE pc but I understand that the extender uses its own codecs.

When I open one of the avi files in GSpot is shows:
    codec = xvid
    name = XviD 1.0.3

When I run 4cc changer (batch) it lists all the files as xvid xvid (with a mix of xvid, XVID, XviD) and does not change the codec.  Is the codec information case sensitive?

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: DMA2100 and DivX / XviD - cannot play after 4CC change

Eastlands, I have the same issue,

I encoded my DVD collection with Magic DVD ripper. They are AVI with Xvid codecs. Media center does not like them as I do not have any codec for it but that is not a concern as I only want to watch in my living roon via my DMA2200.

What happend for me is the video takes about 20-40 seconds to start, no audio and then about 5 minutes into the movie it gets choppy video.

I upgraded the firmaware to 1.16, have a 100 meg direct network connection. MP3's play fine. I trid the 4cc changer, no go for me. I am ripping a video in wmv right now to try.

I guess a better question for me what format works, love to have the video in native DVD format and had the ff and Rew work, no trascoding at the extener.

Sorry for the long winded fist post...really new to Media center...

Re: DMA2100 and DivX / XviD - cannot play after 4CC change

    Ok,

An update to my situation. I ripped a DVD with MagicDVD, just the main movie. I joined it with Videoredo plus. The output was a MPEG movie. I put it in my video library and went to my DMA2200. Video opened no problem and quality is excellent.

So now I have to delete all teh AVI with Xvid codecs I orginally ripped with Magic DVD ripper and make MPEG version. Oh well live and learn.

One other note is the files are 4 gigs instread of 1 to 1.5 gigs. Disk is cheap so I guess I will put another TB in the VMC server.

I assume this what most of you are doing.

Thanks for the great forum to discuss and learn.

Re: DMA2100 and DivX / XviD - cannot play after 4CC change

My solution has been to use VME from http://www.lightningware.co.uk/software/details.asp?code=LWS-VME

I'm just experimenting with this at the moment but it does seem to allow me to convert the XviD files to WMV and watch the converted stream while it does so.  At least this saves me having to convert all the existing avi files.

This integrates into the Media Center UI in a satisfactory manner - just have to rememver to press the "info" button to view the videos via VME rather than directly.

Thanks, I guess I should have waited. I delted all 173 AVI files, dug out the boxes with DVD and started to rip the main movies again. I think in the end this is the best method for me. The movie will have better quality and to rip with Magic DVD takes 10 minutes then another 10 for Videoredo to join them. I did try to convert with 4U but it would take about 60 minutes to transcode.

    Thanks!

Know I need to figure out how to fix the main menu of VMC. Need to remove some of the unsed icons!

Just a quick update, I notices Magic DVD has an mpeg2 version. I ripped a movie and compared to Videoredo mpeg2. They are the same. Therefore you can rip you DVD's to one mpeg out of the gate with Magic DVD.

    Getting there...

If your just gonna rip to Mpeg, then you might wanna try TmpgEnc Express 4, which will do Mpeg and has Dolby option in Mpeg2 format.

This proggy is almost the killer app as it does just about every format (mpeg, divx, wmv, mp4 etc), i suspect a later update will do BD/AVC (as they just launched authoring works supporting these).

Where it fails for me, is it just doesnt support Dolby/AC3 in DivX files so its back to DivX author for me. Gutted because the batch encoder and all the filters and controls it has are wonderful and wipe the floor with DivX Author and AutoGK... good for everything else, including your mpegs, but not good if u need dolby in xvid/divx.
