    Re: thanks

This is really  great! It may make the MCE menus a bit more logical:-)

Two questions (just trying to come back to MCE from Media Portal):

    1. Where can I edit the name of and items in a custom strip (which I created with MCMenuCustomiser?) I want to add a strip with MyTV (maybe change the name to My TV Series,) Videos, Movies and Play DVD, and HDDVD/BR.)

    2. Can I move the Play DVD (from the TV strip) and Video (found in Pictures,) to the custom strip I've created? If so, how?

I second this.  Is there no way to remove this option??  I am running Xbox360 extender from Vista.

Look in the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Extensibility\Entry Points

I dont have MyTV installed, so I tried with Yougle and I've been able to rename the different tiles under the Yougle strip. Trying to rename the Yougle strip hasnt worked though, but I havent looked around much.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! been hating my menus forever, now all nice and clean!

P.S. tried to change "pictures & videos" to just Videos, but it didnt seem to stick.. found all my menu names under 877 in string in the mui files.. anyone else been able to change those names?

Changes to the following nodes stick for me:

    877:
        14023 Music
        14030 Pictures and Video
    876
        14002 Tasks
    879
        14051 Tv og movies

Icetech, did you get it to work for you ?  I have also edited strings in 876,877,879 ; saved them (even rebooted the machine); well it is still the old text being diplayed in the Menus !!  And just to make things even more interesting; the changes that I did apply in ehres.dll.mui are still present ! So it must be getting the strings from somewhere else; at least on my system.

By the way Icetech/bluebucket what OS/Regional Settings are you using ?

I am on Vista Ultimate, SP1 (Final) and using UK Regional Setting (which is the only MUI installed; no extra languages installed on my box) ; maybe it has something to do with SP1 ?

    Cheers

I'm using a danish Vista Home Premium and its also the only MUI installed. I have a da-DK and a en-US folder in the ehome folder, but only a ehres.dll.mui in the da-DK folder. This is the one I'm modifying (obviously..). I've not installed SP1.

Cheers for the reply ; I have been doing quite a bit of playing around all afternoon and I am yet to get the renaming of any string to work (all others Icons, stripes hidding worked for me great).

No matter what I change in ehres.dll.mui ; the new string is there and stays there, but it never taken into consideration. Moreover, if I delete this file (ehres.dll.mui) and reboot the box; Mediacenter still works 100%; all menus are still labeled as originals ; so whether it is SP1 or something else; none of the strings appears to be taken from ehres.dll.mui on my system.

I have double checked that en-US is the only MUI (and folder) I have installed on my PC ; also checked that there wasn't another ehres.dll.mui lying around on the drive; nothing.

So for me, all the hiding/moving/changing priorities in ehres.dll worked 100%; but any changes in ehres.dll.mui is simply not taken in consideration.

    I will keep looking :)

For what it's worth, I am running SP1 and it worked.

thanks Musictype; this is good news in regards to SP1 ; but I am then stuck on why it's not working for me ; maybe the MUI is cached somewhere else on my box.  Just a quick question; did you modifiy the MUI before or after installing the SP1 ?

My box is a freshly installed with SP1 before I started poking around

    Cheers

Hi all - I've just been reading this thread and was wondering if anyone has dabbled with, or thought about putting a handy UI to all of this wizardry?

    Hi Daavid,

Well, I thought about it, but its not simple because the files that needs editing resides inside an existing DLL file. This means that we'll need to extract the files, edit them (preferrably in a fancy GUI app Smile [:)]), and then insert them back into the DLL. This requires re-compilation of the DLL on some level and this is what the resource editors does for us. I'll keep looking at it though and see what can be done.

Yep, I had installed SP1 prior to playing with the ehres.dll.

Try this ehres.dll, which I have modified to suit my taste, and see if it works for you:

P.S. Ah, you'll also need to drop this font in your Windows/Fonts folder, since it's called for in the ehres.dll:

Thank very much Musictype for taking the time to upload your file, very much appreciated. I have now downloaded it and will try it later tonight (at work right now).

My first impression is that I will have to double check that I have been editing the right file, as the DLL you have uploaded is 49Mb in size when the one on my system is 'only' 9.62Mb (ehres.dll) ; and my ehres.dll.mui is 'only' 688Kb ; so there is a huge difference in size between your dll and mine.

Althought, the changes I applied in ehres.dll (hiding some icons, stripes..) are working 100%; it is the changes I did in ehres.dll.mui (renaming the strings) that are not taken into consideration.

    Will report back
    Thanks again

Well, keep in mind that mine is a bit more modified.

I've changed the menus, but also have used Back to Black (http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/community/ettamogah-pub/22991-new-theme-vista-media-center-back-black.html) as a foundation, then applied backgrounds from Monochrome (http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/monochrome-249/monochrome-those-who-like-dark-skins-updated-29566/)

I've moved Movies; TV Series; Netflix and Blu-Ray/HD-DVD to a custom strip (which does not appear in the ehres.)
