Just a small warning to people to make sure they log off their second user before going into standby. I think? I may have been still logged on remotely when I put my machine into standby last night, only to hear a log off sound (I think) and then a warning beep, which I couldn't see because my pstrip settings on the tv had gone. The machine wouldn't go to sleep.

I had to restart and then found out that all kinds of stuff seemed to be mucked up including that the bios had been reset to S1???

I haven't got it sorted out yet, feel like I'm back to square one.

Oh and when I log in as a second user my registered powerstrip seems to have become unregistered - tip of the day screen. I can't seem to get it registered.

Perhaps my problem lies elsewhere...

Damn. Still no luck.
I looked carefully at the termsrv.dll in both system32 and dllcache.
They're both exactly the same number of bytes. Both the same as the one I downloaded from this thread.
Both different from the original one that I moved to a safe place (then off the machine altogether).

I then checked the registry to see that the DWORD was still there. Compared the name carefully to see it was right.

I then checked gpedit.msc to see that limit connections was enabled and set to 3. It wasn't! Got reset somehow. So I fixed it. Set it to 4.

Still doesn't work!

Every time my Remote user logs in, it warns me that the current user will be booted off, then does just that.

What am I missing. Can someone detail the registry settings again.
Post the file size of the right termsrv.dll

Does it matter that I have SP2?

All I can suggest is that you pretend you haven't done it before and go through it again!!! Did you get any complaints from windows wanting to load the original disk??

btw what is the difference between log off and disconnect?

I didnt insert any disc, just hit cancel. Was that right?

btw: Disconnnect leaves the user logged on (and any apps running) but just disconnects the remote session.

If you disconnect you can go to the machine itself and continue using that logged-in user.

Log Off actually logs the user off, generally killing any apps that were running.

(I think).

Yep, I just hit cancel. Figured that windows wanted to overwrite my new(old) dll.

Did you have a look at the original site where the instructions were posted. Quite a few have written comments (imo some a little unnecessary). Perhaps they could point you in the right direction.

It just worked out the can for me. Sorry I'm not much help.

I tried using this and hosed my Extender connection - it times out and has a hard time connecting and has other funky issues now - I am going to put back the old .dll and see if this goes away and try VNC instead.

I'm very familiar with the registry and tweaking a PC so I decided to follow these directions in teh first post to enable concurrent sessions.

 

however, when I try step 5:

5. MAKE THE RDC SETTINGS IN THE WINDOWS REGISTRY ALLOW MORE THAN 2 REMOTE CONNECTIONS AT A TIME

a. Open up the registry editor: Start Menu > Run > 'regedit'
b. Navigate down in the tree to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Licensing Core
c. Add a DWORD Key called 'EnableConcurrentSessions' with a value of 1, then close the Registry Editor.
d. Open up the Group Policy Editor: Start Menu > Run > 'gpedit.msc'
Navigate dow in the tree to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Termina Services. Double-click the item in the list on the right entitled 'Limit number of connections'. Enable it, and set the number of connections to 3 (or whatever you need). Click 'OK'.

Step D is the one that doesn't work for me.  In group policy editor, there is no such "Terminal Services" node under "Windows Components".  I only see "Windows Media Player" and "Windows Update". Under each of those, I don't see any mention of "Limit Number of connections". So clearly something is different on my system such that this option isn't avail in group policy editor.

I found a solution for this!

What i had to do was right click on Administrative Templates then select Add/Remove Templates.  A dialog popped up and I clicked teh Add button.  Then you select the system file in teh explorer dialog. 

after you do this, a bunch more options appear under Administrative templates, most importantly the Terminal Services node. 

Hopefully this info helps someone else too!

Mine didnt work until I enabled Fast User Switching and unblocked the replacement dll's by selecting their properties and clicking Unblock.

Should I be able to view videos on the CLIENT PC that is connecting to my MCE 2005 machine? I would like to view videos that have been recorded or downloaded on my client machine but the audio plays fine only the video is way behing and just lags in refresh rate to keep up with the audio. I have a 100Mbps connection on both machines which are also both powerful 3.4ghs HT p4's but when I look at the network activity I can see only a maximum  of 10mbps is being used over the connection. The network does go to the full 100Mbps because I have seen it when copying files or playing networked games and it easily reaches 90~100 percent utilization. If there is anyone out there who can help me it would be appreciated.

RDP is not designed for that. You cant use Remote Dekstop to stream video.

However, you can watch videos that have been recorded on MCE on a client PC, you just have to have XP SP2 installed on the client machine.
