AFAIK it is not possible, the hack used to make concurrent sessions comes from an earlier version of Windows XP and only supports 2 sessions, it will ask you to close a session or request the user to close the session for you..

Why would you want to do this anyway? Most people including myself only use the second session for administering the machine remotely. I also use the second account for continual downloads via torrent.

Tradermike, that's good to hear.....this forum is a good source of tips and tricks, a bit slow at times, which is a popular gripe...."Thought Police" are prone to comment, but Welcome, glad to be of assistance.

There is another thread on this topic over here: http://sig9.com/articles/concurrent-remote-desktop and, while I haven't yet tried it, they've got 3 concurrent working supposedly.

has anyone experienced any boot time delays after doing this? I made a new user, and having windows boot automatically into that one, i notice it takes a lot longer than my other account used to take. it seems like everything loads up, but then still takes longer.

    Here's a trick I just learnt.

WOW Rhubarb - great post, but man, thats such a huge waste of time.

    1) To connect to a remote machine on the Console, make a copy of your "Remote Desktop Connection" shortcut (mstsc.exe) and name it TS Console.  Then edit the properties and change it to read:
    mstsc.exe /console
Now when you run this custom version of the RDP client, and you connect to your MCE machine that has been hacked as per the first post, you will end up on Session Zero.

    2) how to figure out what session your in or who else is logged on, etc.
If this hack works very well and puts MCE into the Remote Admin mode ala Windows 2003, then Task Manager should show you who all is logged in where, if not on a custom tab, then in Processes under View, Select Columns, Session ID.

These both come pretty much straight from Windows 2003 Server.  I manage Terminal Servers and Citrix boxes all day, so this multi user windows stuff is old hat, just not on an XP based machine.

Thanks for posting all that info though.  Hopefully these other modes will work and save a little time.

PS: Windows 2003 also has a QUERY command in system32 that offers "Query user *" in place of qwinsta.exe.  not sure if that will work if simply copied over from a 2003 Server or not, but its worth a shot.

Casper tried your suggestion, but no joy, can you expand slightly on your explanation?

Obviously, this is a great hack - and thanks for posting/sharing this info.

However, I just thought I'd mention a little remote desktop-ish utility I've been using for years and it's really lightweight and handles the concurrent sessions thing just fine.

It's called Remote Administrator or "Radmin" and it literally consists of only about 4 files (a few dll's and an exe).

It's not free but, it's not expensive either. I use it to remotely access computers on my home network while there's another session already running. I really like how lightweight it is and you can also install it as a service.

for some odd reason its working for all of you and not me with my MCE 2005 setup. I did as instructed and it has got to be something to do with the dll replacement.

I delete it , and 10 secs later or reappear. I copied the other onto it and it asked it I wanted to replace it and I said yes and iduno.

I think the problem is you are agreeing Yes to replacing the copied or older TERMSRV.DLL file which is not recognised by Windows file protection with the original one.....

Give it another go after reading the instructions again, print them out if you can it may help to go through it step by step.

Loads of people have got it going....

Report back on how you get on..

I dont think so, I created a video to show you guys. I did the registry edit to disbale wfp and inserted the file into the dllcache but its getting replaced in the cache from somewhere.
