Re: Backing Up DRM From CableCard Recordings?

I use Acronis to backkup my C drive before I make any changes to my VMC. Then I keep my recordings on D. This works great for rolling back a bad update etc, but like other have said you can't go back in time without losing recordings.

I also don't see this as a big deal. I never understood archiving when you can just buy the DVDs. But then again maybe others don't value there time as much as I do. But I can think of 100 other things I'd rather do than to archive TV shows, convert them and burn them to disc etc.

Re: Backing Up DRM From CableCard Recordings?

Here's a question for this subject. Lets say I get a Cable Card setup, get the tuners running and able to view all channels in HD and premium channels with the system then do a full system (C: OS only) backup.

If I record shows after doing a backup, then restore it, will I be able to watch those shows ? OR do I have to do a backup everytime I want to make any changes to my system ?

Is they system creating a DRM record everytime something is recorded or is the DRM record only created when the system is connected with the tuners ?

call it a hunch (as i've never tried it myself), but i bet it wouldn't work. The DRM behind it is pretty ridiculous, so i doubt they'd let something like that get past ya. I'm guessing whatever DRM file there is gets marked for that exact recording playback permission

    just guessing tho

No you will not be able to watch the shows recorded with the CableCARD tuner since the last backup of the C: (system) drive.

So every time, before I make any changes I make another backup first.

Re: Backing Up DRM From CableCard Recordings?

Probably doesn't help, but if you end up losing a one time movie recording from HBO and you ended up backing up your recording schedule, VMC will rerecord the movie HBO when it airs again.  This might seem obvious for a recurring series, but it also works for 1 time recording events, which helps.
