Re: Internet TV Beta , Choppy or will not play

    Hi,

This is my first post on this issue. I haven't  been able to get 'Internet TV' to play reliably ever since my VMC computer was built over a year ago. As has been mentioned, I just assumed that what I was seeing was simply something to do with the beta status of the app.

I am able to use the Internet TV interface fine. However, whenever I click a link to view a video, the video buffers for about a minute and then playback starts as expected. However, like clockwork after about 10-15 seconds of playback the video will stop and start buffering again. This process continues with the video and audio eventually becoming unwatchable because of stuttering. I have a gigbit network at home and 6Mbps DSL internet connection which is used very sparingly. I use this same connection to view Netflix VOD, YouTube videos (via Yougle) and VOD into my DirecTV DVR with no problems.

I tried the link that you posted and I was able to get the movie trailer to open in Windows Media Player, but it exhibits the same behavior as if I was playing it within VMC. Is seems to me that there is a problem with the buffering, it appears that Internet TV/WMP is not able to buffer the video in the backgroud while the video is actually playing.

What port would need to be unblocked to allow MMS to function properly..?

    Thanks, -eB

Re: Internet TV Beta , Choppy or will not play

So I would like to say that I have resolved my problem. It appears my problem was because Window Media Player "Connection Speed" was set to "Modem 28.8". It may have been the default for the install.

So basically open Window Media Player. Ok not sure why they do this but...right click anywhere between the forward/backward buttons and "Now Playing" you will see a window, left click on the Tools\Options then the click on the Performace tab  under the Connection Speed area select the Detect Connection Speed Button. Then close Windows Media Player and now open Windows Media Center and opent Internet TV.

    Hope this helps somebody.

I had a similar problem; "Video not available".  I'm sitting behind an ISA Firewall server.  I found that the PC which has MCE has to have a 'Basic Internet Access' & 'Media Streaming Access' policy (based on the PC's internal IP address.  This resolved the issue for me.

chris, you didn't explain what to do if one is unable to play that URL from within media player. If I can't, is a port blocked or something?
