    VMC Wake On Lan script

    Hello All,

I am trying to see if there is a script that can be run from within the VMC shell to wake up another machine on my network? I know how the WoL stuff works and need to run a gui or command line WoL Magic Packet generator but how to do it within VMC?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

You'd have to code this using .Net.

How do you invision it working? A program icon in More programs that would turn on another computer?

How good can it be, if it isn't HD?

It doesn't have to be .NET, there are plenty of command line tools for this.  You can have VMC run any command by adding a couple registry keys for it.

Yes, just an icon in More Programs so that it runs the script and wakes the other machine up

Thanks for the correction guys, I'm not sure why I didn't think of that.

I knew how to do this for XP MCE but never done it for VMC. How do I do that?

    In descending order of difficulty:

    1. In the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Media Center Programs\ (C:\ProgramData\Media Center Programs\) folder create a shortcut to the application.  By far the easiest method but limiting in terms of where it goes and what icon is shown.
    2. Create registry keys for the application.  This is handled in several of the subkeys of [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Extensibility].  You'd need to make an entry in Entry Points, Applications, and one under Categories for each location you want a link shown.  This is a little more complicated but plenty of free tools to help you manage them.  What I don't personally like about this is that the image you assign a tile is limited to a square png while the default MS ones can be rectangle so they don't look as good IMHO.
    3. Create a Discovery Package similar to MCESpotlight and Sports.  For me this was the option I went with but it involves development.  You have to implement different PackageMarkupQuickLink and meant to be used by 3rd party partners for media center applications so there has to be a place holder for the menu
