Remote Control Decision - Philips SRM7500 or another

    Hello!

I have been trying to decide on a remote control solution for my home theater system including my HTPC. I have tried to gather information by googling and searching The Green Button forums. I have found some people having problems with Philips MediaControl software.

My first concern is that my HTPC does not run Windows XP MCE or Vista. I am utilizing open source .NET project MediaPortal. This might change in the future. However I want the remote control to be able to control my PC whatever software is running (maybe possibility of using WinLirc, uIce or software alike).
Does the remote control RF USB dongle with the MediaControl software Philips provides, allow defining custom actions or is it limited to MCE, WMP and iTunes? Or should I better use an IR receiver attached to my PC instead of the RF USB dongle? In that case I suppose I should use a mode other than the PC mode, which I think only sends RF signals. Does the remote send IR signals for the green button and other buttons available for PC mode in other modes?

I definitely need an universal remote, allowing around 7 devices to be controlled. If the remote does not send IR signals for the PC buttons in other operation modes, these buttons will be left useless. This case I can go for another universal remote.

I hope I could make myself clear, thanks in advance for your answers.

I have both the Harmony 880 and the Harmony One.... get the Harmony One, it is a sensational bit of kit.

MediaPortal also has pretty good integration with the MediaCentre remote so you should almost be able to plug and play.
