Garbage is a bit harsh... but they do tend to take their sweet time fixing the issues.

Ignoring STBs or flags in countries that don't use flags is a bit much.
    My VMC setup:
    (2) Xbox360s
    System 1 -
    Dell XPS410 (2.6Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram,Nvidia 8600GT, Blu-ray internal, HD-DVD external (X360 drive), (2) Vboxx DTA150s (OTA HD), 1 HVR-1150 (OTA HD) and Dish Network

there's a sizable chunk of the populace here on IPTV

ie, there's no tv without a stb

providing a fix that excludes STB it just dumb/garbage and just continually shows their complete lack of knowledge/caring about customers in Canada

I think the issue is they are up until Fiji were a very US-centric company as far as eHome.

They are doing betterm but I agree that something needs to be done.

The problem is management, not the people who actually do the real work though.

Whomever does their strategic planning needs to spend a week with their software in some other countries and see if that removes the rose colored glasses. :)

something tells me that by then we won't be able to record anything at all. or they'll have introduced a new "feature" whereby we can record for $5/half hour and the show will delete itself after being viewed once.

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions (Part 2)

Same here, trying to record another movie on AMC.  I was not even interested in watching or recording it, but that was the channel it was on when I opened MC, before I tried to change the channel, I got the message that it could not be played back on this computer.  At this point I decide to try and record it so that I could get video of the error and a failure error in the mc data.

I thought it was fixed with the update referred to in this thread:

    http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/276519.aspx

I posted the problem on that thread and am hoping for a response as to how to fix this.  I made sure to leave my remote connection to my home pc up so that I can pull information if any of the MS reps want any of it.

I'm actually getting the error with Vista, so I don't think that update applies to me.  I'm happy to give MS any info they need, I just wish they were more involved.  This is an issue that really hurts my attempts to get my wife to drop cable company DVRs and replace everything with XBox 360s and extenders.

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions (Part 2)

Just to add my 2 cents; I had a lost recording the other day. Similar to the episode that happened a few months ago. Actually I couldn't watch anything with media center at all; green screen with some pixelly garbage. Had to reboot everything (tuner, computer, extender)...all has been well since.

Vista system Dell XPS 420 with ATI cable card tuner.

Initial problem was fixed by uninstalling Dell support software. I hope this is not starting up again.....

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions (Part 2)

I just wanted to provide an update on where we are with resolving this issue.  We've been working with partners and now have a solution that will resolve the recording canceled/stopped due to copyright restrictions for a broad segment of Windows Media Center users.  The previous solution did not apply to systems with set-top box configurations or to systems using CableCard tuners.  This new solution will continue to work for systems without set-top boxes and provide the same functionality to systems with set-top boxes.  Content Protection for CableCards is handled by the tuner, not by Windows Media Center.  The upcoming solution will not affect CableCard configurations.

While it is too early in the process to discuss specific availability, I wanted to let everyone know that we recognize the frustration surrounding this issue and that we are close to providing a broader solution.

Does this only happen to Vista Media Center users? I have never encountered this problem with MCE2005!

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions (Part 2)

This can happen with Windows XP Media Center Edition.  We will also be doing an Windows XP MCE 2005 update with this fix, but as with the Windows Vista update, it is too early in the process to discuss availability.
