Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    TMG01:

Although I had done all of this before, I followed these instructions to the letter.  It simply does not see any clear QAM channels in VMC or WinTV6.  It does see the analog channels coming thru the STB or directly from the wall but that is it.  Thanks for the help!

Oh and just FYI, at your Step (8), there is no Digital Strength section.  So, it simply sees nothing coming into the digital connector.  Might be a bad card.  I have a second one arriving in the next day or so and I wil try this procedure with that one once it arrives.

Sorry, I was typing all that from memory at work!  lol...

For Step 8 -  Go to "Settings / TV / Digital TV Antenna Signal Strength"  - Click Next & tell it to scan through.  Scroll all the way to the bottom & you should now see the newly found channels.

PS - I can't recall from previous posts; but, THIS IS FOR VISTA MEDIACENTER ONLY... NOT MCE2005!!!

Nuts!  Hey, did I read that you said you plugged your cable into the analog tuner input?  The cable co's coax needs to go to the digital coax input.

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

The QAM plugin was able to scan and find 5 more QAM channels (40 total) after installing the hvr1600_162_26028 driver and am now able to actually see some of the channnels digital TV signal strength. Still no joy when tuning to the channel in VMC..."no signal".

I even found out what my QAM channel numbers should be and added a few from that list...nothing yet.

Thanks for getting me motivated on this again, now I know I'm close!!

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

If I just plug the cable from the wall into the digital input, nothing happens.  When I plug it into the analog input, I get the 30 or so basic analog channels.  When I use a splitter and plug one side into the analog input and the other into the digital input, I only get the analog channels.  Just trying all of the combos.  Basically, it doesn't see any clear QAM channels.  I sent Hauppage an email.  I am sure that won't produce anything either.  When the second card shows up, I will try it and post here what happens.

Try this driver for the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 driver version 1.62 with fix for PCs with 4GB RAM or more

OK, downloaded that HVR-1800 driver for 4gb of RAM although I oly hae 2gb of RAM in Vista x86.  Same result.  No digital channels found.  If anyone else has a HVR-1800 card working, please reply to this thread!  Thanks to all.

FYI - The beta drivers for the 1800 & 1600 are the same; so, don't let that hold you up.  Also, don't get stuck on the analog channels things.  In fact, get rid of the idea of plugging ANYTHING into the analog input--period!  It is an NTSC input ONLY...  NOT ATSC/QAM.  No driver in the world would be able to convert that NTSC signal to ATSC/QAM transport streams.  You should only need the coax cable from your cable company going into the ATSC (black) coax input.

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

Like I said, with just the cable from the wall plugged into the Digital input connector on the card...nothing is scanned.  I also tried it in the analog input and it does see the analog channels (basic cable package).  But, since it is a dual tuner card, analog and digital, it should be able to see both inputs at the same time;i.e., NTSC and ATSC/QAM.

Cool.  Gotchya.  I just wanted to make sure you weren't expecting the QAM Scanner utility to find anything with only the analog input plugged in.  QAM scanner only reads the atsc input for its source.

Well, I don't know that I can offer much more than to say keep trying.  I know it works and is pretty cool.
