I read through the first 8 pages and didnt see anyone talking about Cable Card PCs. I have installed 7 or so Cable Card PCs running vista home premium. Only 1 of them- and just yesterday- started doing this on all channels all shows all the time. cannot schedule any recordings at all. If you are watching live TV and record it it will allow you to. but anything scheduled will fail and in the history gives the error "recording of this content is prohibited by the content provider." Please help before my customer returns this Server to me!!! Has anyone seen this error on cable card tuners. I thought the point of going to cable card and having everything encrypted was to protect content from leaving the box and thereby allowing you to record everything digital, HBO, HDTV etc.

I have seen this on my own Dell XPS 420 Cable Card system.  Knock on wood I have not seen it for a week now.  From the research that I did, I still believe it was a bad cable card or a bad pairing.  I tried to replace the cable card, but Time Warner brought out a number of cable cards that needed Firmware updates which I cannot update in my area over the wire. 

They re-paired my old card and put it back in.  As part of that, they did some account balancing on the Time Warner head side and the card has been working great since then.  I also added an HDHomeRun tuner to record all of my network HD shows (which accounts for about 70% of my recordings).  I am sure this helped the reduction in the error.

In my case though I was not seeing it 100%.  There are a few threads on here that may be closer to what you are looking for.  If this is an ATI tuner, a firmware update was release last night.

Just saw this for the first time tonight.  My wife (yes really) likes American Gladiators.  Tonight is the season premier, so not sure if this happened last season.  The Copyright restrictions message appears on both of the CableCard Tuners.  I have an HDHomerun too;. so I went to test that; but I got a strange conflict error.  I am recording something on one of the HDHR tuners; but when watching Gladiators on the other and I hit record it says I can't because of a conflict with my other recording; yet it will allow me to record another HDHR channel...so there technically is no conflict.

 

So, results:
CableCard Tuner: Content Restriction Error
HDHR: Strange Conflict Error

NBC did if for American Gladiators and Medium.. I'll have to download American Gladiators tomorrow and watch Medium like a regular person.. man.. I haven't seen a commercial in sooo long.....

Yeah, I got the broadcast blocked notice on American Gladiators as well.  OTA with a Hauppauge tuner card.  Looks like I'll have to get over that show.  Hopefully they won't hit 'The Office' next, or I'll be just about over TV for good.  ;-)

Just got it, too. WTF! Luckily I was watching something when Media Center popped up the error. In time for me to start recording Medium on the HDHomeRun. Medium is one of the series that I hadn't switched over to the HDHR yet. This didn't happen on any of the prior episodes. What the hell is going on?

I got this error tonight while (tryinng) to record American Gladiators as well.  All my OTA HD tuners where in use, so I used my newly installed XPS 420 ATI DCT w/Cable Card Tuners for American Gladiators.  I just checked Medium and its recording fine OTA. 

I've recorded a lot of programs in the last couple weeks with my DCT and haven't had this issue.  I've never seen it on my four OTA tuners, using an HDHR, Hauppauge 1600, and Haupuuage 1800.

Since Vista obviously has DRM protection (for use with the DCT/OCUR) there is absolutely NO reason why it can't record the program and just protect it.  After all, that is what every other DVR out there does. So why should be be punished because Microsoft follows the rules and no one else does?  How truely Ironic really is this!?

I was happily talking with one of my buddies and my wife screams for me to come to the HTPC - there was this crazy error on the screen I had never seen!!  It was lucky she was watching some other show at the time.  I tried to record it again and again the error popped up.  Finally we started recording it at 10 PM PST when Medium started (not gladiator officially) and sure enough it went through (so far so good).  Just to make sure we recorded on SDTV as well.

What is this mess?  I have 32bit Vista MCE Ultimate.  HDCP and digital all the way from disk to TV.  I guess it will not record because it had the do not copy flag.  But it would not let me watch it with HDCP and all either!  My card is the 2600Pro and I am using DVI to my TV.  No idea why I could not watch it.

Luckily they wised up and removed the flag before they messed over the west coast viewers!

No, they didn't. I'm on the west coast and mine got blocked, too, I caught it in time to record on the HDHomeRun instead.

I saw the dreaded notice while trying to record A.G. via Vista Media Center on a HDHomeRun tuner... Rogue, you said you were successful with a HDHR? Was this to VMC?

I was unable to record American Gladiators or Medium with an HDHR to VMC.

I recorded Medium successfully last night on the west coast with my machine that has three OTA HD tuners.  I do not know which one recorded the show - sorry.  I do not have cable - I use my antenna.  Still I did not allow me to watch gladiators or the first few seconds of medium with a 100% legal HDCP sanctioned system - NO record button used!!!  That is the part that BLOWS me away!  Once it allowed me to watch it - I then pressed record and it worked - way screwed up.
