Guide data and recording from qam with avermedia m780

        Hello,

I have the avermedia M180.  The beta software to do the channel mapping works great and I can see 40 some qam channels.  Is there any way I can get the guide data to work for these channels so I can record my shows in hd when they are on instead of sd?

What beta software are you talking about ? The Avermedia A180 card will not give QAM in Media Center. If you used the AverTV or Aver  Media Center, it does work and pretty well.

If Avermedia released a driver to get QAM in Media Center, please post a link, I'd be interested in it...

I tried this with a A180, the channels mapped in Media center but, they were just black screen. Does the channels come though with this new update  with a A180 ?

When you go into the root of the ftp site at aver there are three folders that are model numbers of the cards that work.  To my undestanding those are the only cards that work.

I figured it out.  I'm really surprised no one on the forum knew how to do this or cared enough to comment if they did.

All i needed to do was to go into the guide and add listings to a channel.  Then through a painful process of determing what the channels are it worked and I have 60 qam channels that I can record from.

So, are you saying you have a A180 card in a Vista machine and WMC gives QAM channels?

I have tried this with a A180 card and Aver ClearQAM tool and once again WMC reports NO tuner card. The channels mapped, but no picture...

    I didn't install the 780 drivers, however.

    Thanks.

I have the M780, title says M180 typo.  But everything is working great on the M780

There are only a few cards that can do media center qam and the a180 isn't one of them:

    Silicondust HDHomeRum - ~$169.99

    AverMedia AverTV Combo PCIe X1 M780 - ~$69 -to- ~$109

    AverMedia AverTV Bravo Hybrid PCIe X1 H788 - ~$57.50 (~$49.99 -to- ~$69.99)

    And now apparently,…

AverMedia AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max - ~$79.99

Re: Guide data and recording from qam with avermedia m780

I think your delay in getting support responses was duo largely to your initial mistaken model number information. There are a lot of people who would like to get QAM functionality in MCE / VMC with older A180 cards so even a slight suggestion (no matter how mistaken that might be) that this could be possible would serve as a hindrance while such a claim is substantiated.

Good to see you have it all setup and working though, generally speaking its not that hard so hopefully there will be newcomers abound to the Avermedia fold.

BTW, as I understand it, Hauppauge is presumably working on their own beta program which would increase the number of QAM capable cards with Vista Media Center channel mapping support.

Thanks for the input.  I was just venting, I've posted questions a couple of times now and have never gotten any useful information, with one issue still completely unresolved and the only responses are 'that happened to me too'.

I guess from what I hear I am lucky in that I have over 40 qam channels that come through well.

Re: Guide data and recording from qam with avermedia m780

What other problems are you having?

Yeah, 40 QAM channels in the clear is fairly good from what I understand. I personally get 147 channels in the clear from my last scan but about 30 or so of those are “Digital Audio Channels“. The digital QAM lineup closely mirrors the cable box lineup with the exception of the pay channels. BTW, I also once received some temporarily unencrypted premium (pay) channels in the clear as well such as HBO-HD, Showtime-HD and MAX-HD,…..this didn’t last long though.

I’m on RCN cable in NYC but they do tend to change the channels around with some degree of frequency,….making it necessary to rescan.

A few of the chanels are 'jittery' but other than that everything works great.  Following the pdf install guide  it worked fine.  Disabling the auto downloads is critical or it wipes out the manual guide settings.
