    Advice on hookup

I have a Media Center pc that I want to hook to my Pioneer tv and  receiver.  However, the computer is in another room, but I do have attic access and would be probably around 60 feet or so.

What is the best way to do this.  My video card is a 7800 GTX with digital connectors and have a creative XFI sound card.  Is there a length limit to cable.  What is the best cable to use here for video and sound.

    Thanks

I would suggest an extender, xbox 360 or the like.....  All you would need is a cat5 cable run, or if you use one of the new V2 extenders you may be able to use N wireless (i would suggest a cable).....

Extender is no longer an option.  I want full media center capability, ie. dvd streaming.

    Re: Advice on hookup

DVD streaming is now a reality on the extender, do a search and you should be able to find the hack.

pete1122 is referring to post: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/260577.aspx

However that still doesn't allow you to have dvd menus

HDMI & DVI are limited to 20' so if you want to stay digital you'll have to extend it powered over 2 cat5e cables. Or you could just use a dvi to component adapter and a long run of component cable. Component can be extended around 100' without quality loss.

To stay digital, you could use this device to add the digital audio and dvi to a single hdmi feed (about $210):
    Gefen EXT-DVIAUD-2-HDMI

Then you could use a HDMI over cat5e extender (about $190):
    XTENDEX ST-C5HDMI-200

    When in doubt, reboot.

Yeah I read the thread about enabling dvd gallery on extenders, but still doesn't solve the shortcomings of the enxtenders (chapter skip, lack of subtitles, etc.)

Looks like HDMI over cat5 may be your best bet.

I will agree Extenders have many shortcomings, i will be dancing a jig when they finally do what it is the are ment to do!!!!! i.e. Extend media... All media...

    Re: Advice on hookup

HDMI can go longer than 20-feet. I have a 35 foot cable myself and there are amplifiers that will take it even longer.

But the HDMI baluns are the way to go, I've seen them for as low as $300 before.

Also, I know you said all digital, but component can easily go that far and is much cheaper too. You can also look at the ZeeBox (not out yet) which will do it over a single coax.

Actually I'm just playing with it, I haven't really started using it yet. I like the UI, but so far it won't do everything I need it to. I'm waiting for better lighting support.
