My XP system had been working fine for a couple of years with Cox Communications and now ATT Uverse. Suddenly I lost the capacity to watch Live TV.  Instead, I get "Application Failure.  A critical Media Center process has failed.  Please restart the computer and try again.  If the problem persists, contact your hardware manufacturer for assistance."

I've rebooted several times, run Registry Mechanic, Spybot Search and Destroy, Disk Clean, Disk Defrag, and dumped the cache.  Nothing works.  I did a search on the problem and discovered I'm not alone but I sure couldn't find a solution.  Can someone help me?

I just tried the Radio feature and it briefly said "someone is watching Channel 3 on another device". None of my TVs are on. The message won't reappear but I can't play the radio. I'm baffled.

I don't know if this is related but a week ago I added an external 500gb hard drive and transferred the bulk of my files (My Videos, My Pictures, My Music, etc) to free up some much needed space on my hard drive. 

I thought about doing a System Restore but I'm leery about going back to a date before I added the external drive.  Can some give me some guidance?  Would a system restore accomplish anything?

Update.  This morning when I tried to listen the FM radio it said there was a conflict with someone watching "paid programming".

With the TV setting I am able to access the Guide.  Just can't watch Live TV

I shut down Media Center and opened Roxio's Media Import.  When I selected ATI AVStream Analog Capture it said "Capture Device Removed"

New Error Message:

"Tuner Not Installed

Video cannot be displayed because no tuner hardware has been detected.  Please check that your tuner hardware is properly installed and plugged in."


Can anyone help me???????

Okay.  I'll try a different approach.  I've gone to the Gateway site and ascertained that I have the current video driver.  I did a System Restore to a month ago when I know the Live TV was working.

Do I need to reinstall Windows Media Center? 

If so,   HOW????

You might want to call your provider... I have a suspicion that they probably turned off the analog channels... in which case your only choice would be cablecard or one of their boxes.

Click on the Start menu, choose run and type cmd
Execute the command regsvr32.exe atl.dll
Execute the command C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched /unregServer
Execute the command C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched /service
Execute the command C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr /unregServer
Execute the command C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr /service
Execute the command C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRec.exe /unregServer
Execute the command C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRec.exe /regserver
Execute the command C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe /unregServer
Execute the command C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe /regserver
Restart Media Center
