Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.7 Release
boogmeister1:
I have installed this plugin, but can't seem to get it to work. The service is running, I have the netflix viewer installed, and I have a valid subscription with netflix. For whatever reason, I can't seem to get this plugin to show up in vmc. Other than installing the application, what else do I need to do? I have gone to Eric's web site and can't find any documentation at all.
What am I missing? After installing the application and making sure the service is started, what do I do?
Thanks in advance,
Eric
Once installed, you should be able to find the plugin in the Program Library (Online Media->Program Library). Are you not seeing it there?

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.7 Release
First of all, many thanks to the Developer. It's one of my top plugins.
Some suggestions (more like personal preference) if I may.
1. Having it buried so deep in the menus makes it difficult to get to. Convenience
2. During loading of the movie, can you put like a loading page? ie. apply a loading image prior to the VCE loading orb. This is more apparent on slow machines where it looks like the system has crashed. Not much of an issue on my faster machine.
3. Vista x64, acquisition of the Netflix license may get into a small loop. Once it's setup, its good to go. During first run, it will say "netflix player not found". I ignored it and it worked fine.
Other than that, it works as advertised. Thanks.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.7 Release
I have a question on nagivation:
1. Launch plugin
2. Select Watch Now
3. Select any movie
4. Press the Green Button to go back to the main VMC menu
5. Launch the plugin again
At this point I am back at the movie information screen I selected before, but I can't navigate anywhere else within the Netflix plugin as the Back button does not do anything. I can regain function of the back button if I hit the Green Button once to go back to the main VMC menu, then once more to go back into the Netflix plugin. Is this something you could look into for a future release?

I assume you mean having it located in Program Libraries (unless your talking about vmcNetFlix's menus), at some point I'll look into a better install location options ... but in the mean time, below is a link which contains a batch file and registry xml that will do this for you. Extract it to a directory, start a CMD prompt (run as administrator), go to the directory it was extracted to, and execute the batch file.
http://myweb.cableone.net/eluttmann04/projects/vmcNetFlix/Releases/RegisterToMovieCategory.zip
This will place it in the TV/Movies strip. Problem is, if I install it directly it can override a plug-in that others might have already placed there.
Also, some have been using VMC Menu Customizer (I think thats the name) with some success.

Yes, I can look into adding something like that.

There are some issues (especially when using the extenders) in which initialization of the movie player acquisition of the netflix license doesn't complete correctly the first time (or so). I'm posting a release that (I hope) provides a little bit better support for this ... at least it makes it easier to retry. However, once it works your typically good to go - unless your sharing the license (cloning) among the VMC and the extenders.
Thanks for your comments,
- EricL
Also, sorry about the late response ... my internet was down most of the day today.

I just tried this and I didn't have a problem with the back button - it worked as if I never left the movie info screen. Question, are you running SP1? If I remember, there was a hotfix for Vista that I think addressed this issue - which I believe as also rolled into SP1.
Thanks,

vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.8 Release
Release Notes Beta 1.0.7.8 (4/19/2008):
- Removed automatic initialization of the movie player during typical startups, this now only happens during startup when you are going through the extender setup.
- If a movie fails to play, it will now ask if you want to re-initialize the movie player and try playing the movie again.
- Added a new button in the Settings page which performs initialization of the movie player, this allows you to manually force the initialization to happen without rebooting.
- Fixed an issue in which ffdshow which was causing the application to fault.

Yes, I have SP1 installed. Would you be able to try it after exiting and restarting Media Center? I noticed that sometimes it gets into a mode where it will work properly, but it is a consistent repro when I have just started the app.

Is this using an extender, or on the VMC PC?

This is on the Media Center PC itself, I don't have any extenders set up.

I'm having trouble reproducing this one ... any hints on what I might be doing wrong?

Maybe it's a difference in hardware/config? I am using a standard Microsoft Remote Control to my Antec Fusion Black case that runs the iMon software to capture the IR commands. This is really my only way to repro the issue since it's my only peripheral with the Green Button. Is there any other information about or from my system I can give you that might help? Otherwise, all I can say is these are my *exact* repro steps:
1. Start Media Center
2. Start NetFlix plugin
3. Select Watch Now
4. Select any movie
5. Press the Green Button to go back to the main Media Center menu
6. Start NetFlix plugin again to end up back at the previously selected movie details
7. Press Back on the remote and it won't navigate away from the current screen.
At this point, I can regain navigation within the NetFlix plugin by hitting the Green Button twice, then hitting Back on the remote.

Hmmm, might be hardware/config ... can you try using the backspace on a keyboard instead of your remote to see if that works (just tested it and it works just like my remote does on my PC).

After performing steps 1 through 6 on the remote, the Backspace key on my keyboard doesn't work just like on my remote.

So, what happens if you try setups 1 through 6 using mouse/keyboard - can you still duplicate it then, or do you have to use the remote.
Sorry to keep asking you to duplicate/try stuff, I'm just trying to figure out if there is a way I can duplicate it or if it's just unique to your setup.
Question for the general public - is anyone else able to duplicate what ciz28 is seeing?
Thanks,
- EricL
