Fantastic piece of software, really impressed and cannot wait for the next version. This is sure to impress. The first time I installed I had a problem as it was not listening on 808  (checked via a netstat -na) so I disabled the firewall uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled and then started up my extender and it worked on port 8080.

I've got it to work on my xv6800 with windows mobile 6.  It works in both IE and Opera.  Although in IE it doesn't work well.  It works better in opera.

Fantastic app!  Comments:

1. Is there any way to get rid of the ngRC addin popup every time you launch Media Center? It's kind of annoying.
2. The bar at the bottom doesn't work for me.  It reads "Not Playing..." all the time, even when something is playing.
3.  No album art for me (not that I really care).
4.  When just using as a remote, it's very responsive, but when browsing music i's kind of slow.  Probably a product of 802.11b on the PSP and both the PSP and media center being wireless.  Not a deal breaker though.
5.  It worked great yesterday, but can't get it to work this morning (even on the media center computer itself).  Weird.

however when i click on my music I just get "Loading please wait" message... I never get to my music.

Is there something I need to configure?

I had the same issue i thought with my music. I just had to open the web browser on my main machine and not iphone so it could complete loading the music and create the cache. So I would just browse to your music on a webbrowser on your machine and just let it run for a while. It took mine at least 10 minutes to finish, but now it's nice and fast with the cache.

It does seem to take a while the first time you try to view your music, mine took about 5 minutes to appear initially.

I have another question can you only control an extender if Media Center on the main PC is closed?
If I have media center open on the main PC downstairs but I am upstairs on an extender the remote control doesn't appear to work?

Here is a small guide, it's very easy, as soon as you know, how it works:

1. after running the installer, a windows service is installed, you have to start it (either by heading to control panel, services..., or with a reboot)
2. after starting the service, you have to start the media center interface (stop it before, when it's running).

What is the name of the service you have created?  It appears that the service is stopping from time to time and I want to check/restart it, but from reviewing my services list, it isn't obvious which one it is.

Also, when I first click on the 'my music button' in the UI the cache builds in a couple minutes on my test machine.  However, on my main VMC machine, I have 800 artists and 3200 songs.  I've left it to compile for 8+ hours and it still hasn't finished.  Is there a limit to the cache size that I am surpassing?

BTW, this is a really cool concept that I hope can play a major role in my VMC implementation

error loading next generation remote control addin: access to the path 'c:\extenders.txt ' is denied

I checked and even with 'hidden/system' files shown there is no file called c:/extenders.txt or anything even similar to that on my drive.

ideas?

I'm not running 64 bit Vista. However I haven't had any issues with ngRC. I also change the default port number from 8080 to 8081. I also don't have a C:\Extenders.txt file in the root of C:\

The name of the service it adds is: Apache Tomcat. I had to change this from manual to automatic.
I have over 260 albums and over 3000 songs and it did take a while for the list in ngRC to be created the first time.

I'm not running 64 bit Vista. However I haven't had any issues with ngRC. I also change the default port number from 8080 to 8081. I also don't have a C:\Extenders.txt file in the root of C:\

I also started up my 360 last night to check and it also said that access to extenders.txt was denied. I checked the services and I do have tomcat running. Maybe it is because I am running x64?

Hoping the author can chime in with more details on how to fix it. Concept seems really cool.

I would try it in a different browser first just to iliminate any issues with that, perhaps Firefox.

Hello there,

I agree! This is the one of the greatest apps I've seen for WMC. 

You say there is a doc explaining the skinning feature.  I'm not able to find it within the Program Files/ngrc - folder.  Where might it be located?
