Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
I've updated the version again. By default I have disabled to show all the metadata in the DVDCacheInfo folder. You have to enable it in the Settings dialog. It will show deleted movies as well as any movies in DVD changers for which VMC has created files.
- Added option to Show all the .XML files in the DVDInfoCache folder, even the ones which don't have a corresponding DVD on the hard disk. This should allow for updates to DVDs in DVD Changers. It is found under the Settings dialog and it's called "Show Metadata Not Corresponding To A DVD Folder On The Hard Disk (shows deleted movies and DVDs in a DVD Changer)"

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
Hi taranu,
I am going to install the latest version today, I just wanted to ask - is it better to uninstal the original first or install the new version over the top?
Also, just wanted to say a big thanks for developing and sharing this excellent app :)

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
Installing the new version will update the existing one unless you are running one of the very early versions. Uninstalling is very quick so you can do it once and then you can just install the newest version without uninstalling.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1 WON'T INSTALL
vander1:
This looks like a very cool application. However, I can't get it to install. I downloaded the zip file from http://www.taranu.net/download/dvdlibman01.zip, which I'm assuming is the latest version (0.7?) even though it still has the 01 at the end. I extract all files, and run the setup program. It comes up with a dialog box that says "cannot start application" and "Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor." When I click on Details, I get the following:

I am running Vista Home Premium, and I run as the Administrator always, so I don't have to deal with UAC problems. Any ideas on how I can get it to work? Thanks in advance.
I am now having the same issue. can someone let me know what is missing. i just downloaded the latest from the link on the first page and decompressed it on my homeserver and tried running the install from there. i am eager to try out the addition for dvd changers. let me know what i need to do to begin testing this asap!

Answered my own last question from previous. I had to reboot after uninstall and was able to install new version. DVD ifo does show up for changer, but i will have to test further to make sure info is easily changed and works well. Thanks for all the hard work!!!

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
Jitters Wrote:What about extending DVD Library Manager to those that convert DVDs to dvr-ms files?
Can you tell me what the advantages are of converting DVDs to dvr-ms files?
I know you mentioned that its a standard windows media format for recorded shows and i assume these can be played over an extender box like a 360 or the dma2200
But what makes it better than say ripping the dvd as one big vob and then renaming the vob to a mpeg?
thanks

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
Is anyone ripping HD-DVDs or Blu-ray discs to use with this ? I'd like to put some of my HD-DVD movies on my drive, show up under DVD library, and not need a 3rd party program to play them back (play back through media center, with out WinDVD installed).
Can this be done ? Any suggestions on what to use/format to work in 1080i/p ?
Again, great program, still only wish I could get all the content like if it was a recorded movie (actors, etc).

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
You should be able to get actors, director, etc by using the IMDB or Amazon search. You can use some fields from IMDB and some from Amazon. Personally, I get all the data from IMDB and cover image from Amazon. IMDB has more complete information (actors, synopsis, genre, etc)

When I select a movie,(a ripped DVD) in dvd library, it does not show the "actors" button, only gives me a button to change info. Did I set it up wrong or am I missing something ?

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
You can edit the actors by double-clicking under the Actors field. It allows you to add/edit/delete. Also at the top of the screen there are some buttons for "Search IMDB" and "Search Amazon". You can use them to download additional information.

I'm not sure you get what I mean. I know the feature your talking about and it works, lists the actors, etc.
Inside Media Center, in the DVD library, When I select a "ripped DVD" The only buttons I see is Play, Restart, Edit Info (edit info, just changes the name).
If I select a movie that I recorded, it shows up and gives me other options, Play, Cast + More, delete, Keep Intill, Burn.
All I am looking for is to get the "cast + more" to show up with ripped DVDs. Maybe this is not in your program, it's a Microsoft thing but, anyone know how to get it show up, it does not show up for me ?
Feature Request: To save settings under the user profile that Media Center runs on, so I can RDC in as another user and edit the info....
Also is there another place to get shorter desriptions of the movies ? IMDB (never mind the popups when you select them) and Amazon have almost a book to read just to read the info.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
Hi everyone - first post on this excellent forum, so please be easy with me - I'm new to all this. Firstly I would like to thank you for providing such an excellent application. I have however encoutered a problem which I hope you can help with.
On running your application I find that memory usage soars to around 1.95gb and my system slows to a crawl (I am presently running Vista Home Premium with 2gb of RAM) I presently have around 220 DVD files stored on 2 external Hard Disc Drives, connected via a USB hub to my laptop. When accessing and entering information via the application I get stability problems and errors - which if I can remember correctly refer to 'unhandled exception - out of memory' errors.
Any advice you can give would be appreciated.
Thanks
I am running what I believe to be the most up to date version of DVD Library Manager version 0.7.0.14

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
I'm wondering if this will fix an issue I have ;-)
In the UK if you expose the DVD library and reocrd any movies from TV. Unlike in the US it does not download the coverart and bring down the descriptions etc. Will this tool be able to resolve this? i.e. can it resolve the cover art etc for dvr-ms files? Or if I convert them .avis?
Just want to set my expectations prior to testing.
