    QAM availability in Comcast, Atlanta?

I'm trying to figure out if clear QAM is available in the 30115 zipcode on Comcast's network. Whats the best way to verify this before I buy QAM hardware?

I would say you get the free local content for sure thats always a safe bet.  But as for anything premium it is all locale by locale.  Easy way to test is to hook up a TV that has a digital tuner and let it scan.  I know my TV will sort out the channels that have encryption and not list them but show they are there.

    Thanks!

I thought there was a website of some kind for this information.

If you go to the Silicon Dust Website (they make the Hdhomerun) there is a wiki with QAM listings. The only hitch is that it's not tied to a particular provider so if there are multiple cable providers in your zip code, it won't differentiate.

avsforums is also a good place to check.  In fact it looks like this thread here might have your answers but you have a lot of pages to look through

As I understand, it will certainly be available, but just which channels, no one is sure. It even changes from time to time. I have just about configured a HDHR dual qam receiver for area code 30345 on comcast. You get a lot of channels shown on the site mentioned previously, but you can't get data for some reason. The problems are with minor channels like the 2 or 3 cspan channels. Also many unknowns, like GBE ???. The PBS channels are a prblem now, as the are just setting up HD equipment. I got the 4 major networks, CW and WPCH( old ch 17). By Jan I understand I will get the PBS stations after 6PM.

The best way to estimate what to expect is hook up an HD TV with a QAM tuner. You will see just what is out there. Things change fast, but at this time for Vista you have 2 choices. HDHR and Aver Media 780. The HDHR has been out for over a year, but the Aver 780 uses a Beta software product.

I found the hole setup process a BLACK BOX experience. I never really understood what I was doing but I finally got a good setup.

    Good luck

Re: QAM availability in Comcast, Atlanta?

The current HDHR setup software, with automatic remapping and the guide name server has made setting it up much more like doing a channel scan on a digital TV.  I run the scan every day or so to see if there are new channels available.  If not, I just cancel the setup.  If there are, I tick/untick the scanned list for the channels I want and apply the settings.  In VMC, an easy way to update the guide is to go into VMC Settings, TV, Guide, Add Missing Channels and create a new digital dummy channel  1-1, channel 69, named "delete".  After clicking Done, VMC updates the guide with the new channels previously scanned and selected in the HDHR setup.  Going back into Add Missing Channels one more time to untick the dummy channel gets rid of that entry.

I'm using an HDHomeRun and get about somewhere between 50-60 digital channels on the basic service.  Zip code 30044 (Lawrenceville).
