    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

Not tried the new version yet, just chipping in to say I get the same problem as the above post. The first movie in my list is 16 Blocks, and I get a blank image for it until I scroll down to the next movie in the list (300!).

    thanks for your efforts!

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

Decided to give this a shot to organize my TV shows and so far I love it.

I too have had the issue where when I go into a folder, the first selection doesn't show up properly until I scroll down and back up.  Seems like you'd need to add a refresh of some sort upon entering a folder.  Also, It's cutting off folder names with a period in it.  For example, I have a folder for Dr. Katz but it displays as simply Dr  .

Thanks again for a great program!

Does anyone have steps that will reliably produce a crash on video browser, I will put out a fix as soon as I get them :)

    Cheers

Will try my best to reproduce a crash with steps to recreate!

Keep up the good work, and don't let the next version be so far away ;-)

I have all of my TV shows on a different PC, and set up the shortcut to that network drive in the my videos folder as you suggested.  If i go into your plugin and the shortcut hasn't fully loaded yet but I click on the link anyways, it'll stop responding and crash.  So far thats the only way I've encountered a crash.

I haven't had any crashes like this and all my stuff is on another pc. What i actually have is the folders on the other pc mapped as a drive then a shortcut to that and it doesn't seem to have any issues, might want to try mapping it if you are not.

I've been testing it out for a couple days so far the one thing i've found is I don't want to see the metadata folder, anyway to hide that or make it so it doesn't show up?

Also I was quite happy with how the ruby script worked out but while having the change filenames tag on I think it deleted some files from one of my folders somehow. I think that happened was in the folder it had two file that might have both looked like the ep, one being the standard s01e01 and anohter that was a making of for that episode named 1x11. Seems it might have renamed them both to the same and replaced one or something, im not sure :o I'll try and reproduce but if anyone else has seen this, it would be nice to make it a bit more careful.

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

    Hi!

Nice plugin! I have developed some smaller MCE apps, and I found the info at

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb189062.aspx to be extremly helpful when layouting the user interface. I noticed that the "nowplaying" viewport was placed on the right. This should always be on the left side as depicted in the chapter "general considerations on page layouts".

Also keep in mind the spacing between elements. You don't want the user interface to look cramped, which is one of the issues i have with MyMovies..

Other than these minor issues with the layout, is a really nice plugin.

    keep up the good work!

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

    Indeed a nice plugin!

May I do a request? Is it possible to implement something like sorting DVD's on genre? I have a quite large list of ripped DVD's on my hard disk and enabled the DVD menu to view them
However when viewing my DVD's I see them all, which makes it sometimes hard to navigate...

There are applications with which it is possible to make an extended DVD library (like "my movies"), but they support too much for me; I just want to sort my DVD's on genre, nothing more - nothing less ;-)

(I also asked the question in http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/238086.aspx , but someone referred me to your plugin ;-)

    Regards,

    Johan

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

hi just reporting a bug, if the folder has a period in the name then video browser chops the display name of the folder at the period, for instace:-

"3.10 yuma" is displayed as "3"

nice plugin though, really like it, just gotta get the metadata working and it will be great!.

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

For the next release I'll fix the "3.10 yuma" bug, the missing share crash, and I will try to fix the initial missing metadata bug

I'll also try compiling the ruby script to an exe to make it more usable ...

After these I will look at a few other features like watched / unwatched which is a can of worms, genere sort and by length sort, and perhaps revive the global newest files option.

Are people liking the new "fast browsing" feature where you can use the remote number buttons to browse through long lists?

Has the latest release been stable?

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

fast browsing works a treat. I've only had the one crash where the app became unresponsive & I had to reboot to make it owrk reliably again. It may have been a usb spin up issue on an external drive.
one other thing, I've quite a few movies starting with "the" would there be a way for the browser to ignore the "the" when sorting?

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

It's been very stable here, very few if any crashes. Fast browsing was a nice add on but I think after selecting something if you go back it no longer works anymore.

The ruby script is kind of nice how it is as it can be edited easily (to add more filetypes to the list for examble)

And sorry to ask again, what about the metadata folder, can it be hidden from the display with the episodes somehow?

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

    Frosty,

I fully support hidden folders, if a folder is hidden it does not show up in the UI. My ruby script tries to set the hidden attribute on the metadata folder. perhaps its choking there somehow. have you tried to set the hidden attribute from explorer?
