    Re: Incorrect Duration Times Issue

    Hi!

A question for all you guys with this problem. If you press FFW and REW the timer will jump to 5 minutes and then the "show ended" dialog will appear.

But what happens if you try and watch the show? Does it still end at 5 minutes or does it continue?

I had one problem before that if I pressed either FFW or REW it would just jump back to the beginning...

And I also have in another thread described the problem with recordings that stop after a few minutes. First, I thought it was the problem described in this thread.... but then I verified that the recording halts for unknown reasobns after 2-5 minutes time.

    /Henrik

If you don't touch any buttons (and you don't have any commercial skipping), the entire show will play.

    Re: Incorrect Duration Times Issue

I'd like to add my name to the list of people with this problem...any chance Vista SP1 will have a fix?

I'll be trying the fix listed on the bottom of this page as well.

    I'm using:

    Vista Home Premium MC
    AMD X2 4400
    1 Hauppauge PVR 250

Records fine, but *some* shows have an incorrect duration, FFW/skip is VERY off.

Vista SP1 didn't solve and if we have to wait for Windows 7 it will be a long wait.

In the end of 2009 or early 2010

It just sucks we must wait this long for a solution.

I'm pretty sure I won't be waiting.  There are alternatives out there.

    Re: Incorrect Duration Times Issue

As Jessica noted earlier in this thread, we identified the issue and it is fixed in the next version.  We believe we've refined a solution on this issue for Vista Media Center and are investigating including this as a fix in an upcoming Media Center Cumulative Update.  That's not a promise that this fix will make it in any particular release - we may find issues that would preclude this from releasing.

I'll keep the thread updated as we make progress on this issue.

    Hi Tim,

I, like many others, have been waiting "paitently" for this bug to be fixed for over 1.5 years.

I'm glad to hear it has been fixed in Fiji.

Is there any "official" way for us to get a patch to fix this now, without Fiji?

Unfortunately I have some major issues with Fiji:

    1. I have to resort to black market tactics to get it.
    2. We have 4 Media Center PCs running MCE2005 and 2 Media Center PCs running Vista.  If I was to update the Vista PCs, I'd kill off the ability to watch Recorded TV on the other 4 Media Center PCs (only one PC does all the recording; the others access the shared Recorded TV folder through "watchedfolders").
    3. Fiji will break DVRMSToolbox and our automated commercial skipping software (Show Analyzer).  Currently all 6 Media Center PCs have fully functional auto commercial skipping.
    4. Although I haven't tried it, I very much suspect Fiji will break FireSTB.  We use FireSTB along with our R5000HD Bell 6000 STB (USB port) to record all of our HD content in Media Center.
    5. Fiji breaks many other 3rd party plug-ins I am using.

Is there any hope you can release this as a stand alone patch?  Considering all of the issues with Fiji and our "whole home" networked Media Center solution, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to upgrade to the next version of Media Center (although I would very much like to be able to).

    Re: Incorrect Duration Times Issue

    Hi HT Slider -

Short answer is yes.  We have a fix for this issue for native Windows Vista Media Center and it is slated for the next Windows Media Center Cumulative Update.  It's too early in the process to discuss specific availability of this next update, and there is still a chance that an issue could be found that would postpone either the overall update or any particular fix in the update.

    Has this been fixed yet?

I'm running Vista Home Premium with a HDHomerun tuner. I've updated Vista and HDHomerun, but I'm still seeing this problem occur.

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

We are still seeing the problem on roughly a daily basis with our PVR-250 TV Tuner (capturing through s-video).

It truly messes up Media Center for us - to the point where I spent many hours putting together a work around.

I published the batch file, profiles, etc. over at http://babgvant.com/forums/t/2009.aspx

My solution requires DVRMSToolbox be installed and works fairly well.  Unfortunately it still doesn't work 100% of the time, but the success rate is probably 80-90%.  When it doesn't work, the problem is the "fixed" dvr-ms file isn't able to replace the corrupt file because Media Center (or something) has it still in use for some (unknown to me) reason.  I can manually replace the corrupt recording with the good one.

I would still, very much, like to see Microsoft release a patch to fix this bug.

Tim (Microsoft), can you share details on when/if a patch will be released to address this bug?
