Re: Media Center Plug-Ins and Applications (Current List)

I have a few questions related to plug-ins. I used to have a media center PC with the XP operating system. I've now purchased a new Vista media center PC - the HP m8120n. It came loaded with lots of junk on the MCE start menu. I can't find a way to get rid of it and clean it up. When I was using my XP media center, I was able to clean up the start menu with MCE Customizer. But in downloading  and running it, the changes I tried to make through it have no affect on my start menu. Did those HP folks somehow write protect their MCE start menu and program settings and those annoying vendor links they've inserted into the menu? Does anyone know of a good, reliable MCE add-in that will help me customize my MCE start menu under Vista?

If not, could I purchase a standard Microsoft Vista with the MCE package and replace my HP's version of MCE so that I have a clean start menu? Can this be done without having to reformat my drive and completely reinstalling Vista (which I don't want to have to do)?

I checked that fireplace deal out yesterday. It does look real nice. I wouldn't pay $25 for it, though :(.

Re: Media Center Plug-Ins and Applications (Current List)

Yeah. $25 is pretty steep for a one function item that is just a novelty. Although it is pretty nice.

2 things they need to do - upgrade their fireplace plugin for Vista. And then create new more functional plugins that people will buy. Then, they could offer the fireplace one for free to attract customers.

Re: Media Center Plug-Ins and Applications (Current List)

Please add the excellent MCEbuddy. (free)

Simple, clean and all automated.  It installs as a service to run at the hours of the day you specify.  Can use comskip to cut commercials and output to DivX, WMV or H.264.  Includes multiple profiles for Ipods, PSP, Zune, etc.

Hands down the best experience for me and DVRMS files by far.

Re: Media Center Plug-Ins and Applications (Current List)

Please add Intelliremote to your list.  Intelliremote allows you to take complete control of your MCE remote allowing it to control Winamp, ITunes, Media Center, PowerDVD, or any other application you can think of.  Unlock the full potential of your MCE Remote!  It is shareware with a full trial download to see if Intelliremote fits your needs!

I can vouch for IntelliRemote. I wish more modders out there had this kind of attention to detail.

Here is a new one: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/permalink/232861/232861/ShowThread.aspx#232861

An add-in that allows you to play SHOUTcast streams directly in MCE by choosing a genre and then a stream.

Re: Media Center Plug-Ins and Applications (Current List)

Life Extender is the bomb! it is a utility that runs in your startmenu that will automatically search through your DVR-MS folder and remove the commercials out for you. it is fully configurable to set the removal of commercials at a specific time or right after MCE is finished recording. i have tested it with Vista 64 bit and it works GREAT! it does not convert your media it keeps it as DVR-MS

let me know what you guys think.

Re: Media Center Plug-Ins and Applications (Current List)

how does it compare to dvrmstoolbox?

DTB will do the commercial tagging/removal on the fly, so as long as you've got 15ish mins buffered you can skip forward thru commercials

There is one more interesting project - watching DVB-S with MCE. Just visit www.dvblogic.com.

    Good luck!
