    Re: Vista MCE FAQ

Hi I probably shouldn't pollute the FAQ thread too much, but I would suggest confirming that you are running 32 bit Vista, as I'm unfamilier with x64 and xvid. Next try running gspot and pointing it at a problematic divx to see which decoders windows is trying to use. There is an option to have xvid decode all fourcc formats, I left it enabled when I installed it. I hope this is of some help.

    Re: Vista MCE FAQ

I had the same problem with divx files causing crashing for video library with divx, xvid and ffdshow codecs.  I finally found success with ffdshow tryout codecs http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/

    Re: Vista MCE FAQ

Q: Vista seems slower than mce2005.
A: The default power option has a cpu limit of 50%.  START->CONTROL PANEL->POWER OPTIONS and change from balanced to high performance.

I believe this is incorrect. Could this be removed, or can anyone prove that this is true?

Can you add a line for whether or not Blueray AND HD-DVD are supported?  (Meaning both disc types can be played back on the same machine).   This is my determining factor in switching to Vista and I have a tough time figuring it out each time I browse TGB.

Question: Are Blu-Ray and/or HD-DVD natively supported by Windows Vista Media Center?
Answer: Neither HD-DVD nor Blu-Ray are natively supported by Windows Vista Media Center. There are methods to hand off playback to external applications (such as PowerDVD), but the quality of these methods is dubious.

Question: Discounting Media Center for a moment, can I play both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray on the same machine?
Answer: Yes. In fact, there are combination drives that do exactly this, like the LG GGC-H20L.

Considering Crazy hasn't been on in a few months, I think it's time to do something with the FAQ. Let me take a stab at an extended version.

Q: Why does my online media look different from pictures in websites?  I'm running vista x64
A: The pictures you saw are from the x86 version of vista.  It has the  full online media.  There is a known issue in x64 that microsoft is aware of and working on a fix that will come over windows update when finished.

Can you upgrade to Vista x64 with CableCARD PCs?  They all seem to come shipped with 32 bit versions of Vista.  Please correct me if otherwise.

Is the question I quoted here the reason I don't see any x64 CableCARD OEM PCs?

Q: Can I enable Concurrent Sessions in Vista?
A: Yes, you can! Simply download the patched termsrv.dll from here:

And follow the guide over at missingremote.com to enable concurrent sessions (if you use the download links there, be sure to check the comments for the most recent versions)! Note: this will only work with Vista Ultimate, Vista Home Premium does not have remote desktop capabilities, and Vista Business does not have VMC.

    CrAzY,

Might want to update this for Vista Sp1 as the old files do not work with SP1.

    32bit

    http://rapidshare.com/files/90325478/termsrv.sp1.patched.dll.html

    64bit

    http://rapidshare.com/files/90727723/termsrv.dll.html

Also it works with Home Premium as well. Not all features work though, Clipboard (need to find  rdpclip.exe file (lives in the windows\system32 folder on Ultimate) ) and sound does not work

    Just trying to help....

    Re: Vista MCE FAQ

Hey everyone I am having an issue with Media Center Extender

My computer sees my extender by gives me an Configuration error within about 3 seconds of starting the setup process.

I do not have Norton or One Care installed. Does anyone know what else could be causing this?

    Ryan
