Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
What will it say under that category?
All it says currently is " High Definition Audio device" which I'm guessing is my on-board audio device.
Thanks for your help.

There should be a Bridge, Capture, and Tuner item listed.

I used this card for a while but it seemed to be a PITA, since I could never get rid of some of the channels it listed when I lost channel listings.
Well, two days ago, I decided to go back and try it again. I must say that the QAM tool itself has improved quite a bit. It seems much easier now to undo the changes, as well as do labeling in the QAM tool itself.
Good Job AverMedia!

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
hubs99:"I have the M780. Cable comes out the wall and gets split. One goes
into my TV, the other into ATSC port on M780. My TV has a built in
ATSC/QAM tuner and all the channels pick up fine. In VMC using the
M780 I only get 68 channels. So I remove old drivers and installed the
beta drivers. Ran the scan tool but it finds no services in either STD
or HRD. I have comcast (zip 48842). Help! I followed the PDF
instructions but nothing scans. I switch the cable from ATSC to OTA
and still nothing. Zero service after complete scanning."
I am having the same problem with my 780 as well. Any ideas out there?
ok, i'm not sure if i understand what's required to do what i want, someone help me out.. i plan on buying the M780 and am not sure what i need to get digital channels (not talking HDTV channels here). if i get a comcast digital plan can i plug the coax directly to the m780 to view and tune the channels? if so, will they be digital or will they be analog? if not, that means i need a comcast set top box? and then the coax/s-video output from that into the M780 (and then i assume i'd need the ir blaster in that scenario)? Thanx, -Tony

Yes, you can plug the Comcast coax directly. You'll have one input for HD digital and one for analog. No set top box is required. You'll need the beta drivers from Avermedia as described here. Note: It's a bit "cutting edge" (clear QAM).
Hope that helps,

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
I have to call upon you folks again. Here's my problem: I bought 2 identical reconditioned media centers (thus, no help from the manufacturer). They each contained the Avermedia 780. Published specs are below:
One PCI Express ×16 (graphics interface) Video card is GeForce 7650GS One PCI Express ×1 Two PCI conventional
Complete specs at: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009456/1009456nv.shtml
I got the ClearQAM working on one machine and intended to add to it the second Avermedia card. This is mentioned as feasible in at least two replies to this monster thread.
Tried for two hours and was unable to physically seat the AM card in one of the "conventional" slots in the bus. I thought that a PCI Express 1 can fit anywhere, but I'm not well versed in this.
Please advise. The alternative is to go through all the setup with the second machine and federate media centers. For a lot of reasons, I don't want to go this route.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
mjclifford, PCI Express is not compatible with any version of PCI or PCI-X. Dual M780s are feasible in a single machine, but only if at least two PCI Express slots are available.

Tony,
You are not likely to get all of the digital channels included in comcast's digital plan with the M780. I have comcast in Seattle, and most of the digital channels are encrypted. The M780 will only tune un-encrypted, or "clear" QAM. If you have a digital TV you can determine which digital channels you will recieve. To recieve all of the digital channels you will need a set-top-box (or a cablecard tuner). There are no ways to directly connect the HD output of the set-top box to the M780, so you will get analog SD quality if using the M780 with a set top box. There is a way to get HD channels from the set top box using firewire (but for recordings only, no live TV.) Search firestb to find the thread if you are interested. I am using the firestb approach, and it is hit and miss for successful digital recordings via firewire.

hmm, that's pretty discouraging. so basically what i'm understanding then is the only way to watch and record HDTV on the PC is OTA HD to a PC tuner, an OCUR-cablecard-equiped PC, or something like the haupauge hd-pvr. so with all these HDTV PC tuners out there, OTA is the only way to get an HD signal? why have the ability to do clearQAM if you can't even pull an HD capable signal from your STB? just to get it from OTA? i don't see why can't they send a HD signal out the coax of the STB. it has to be able to handle the bandwidth., esp. since the incoming signal is over coax to the STB. it doesn't make sense to me, is it a copy-protection HDCP thing? Thanx, -Tony

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
So I got the card to work after a CMOS reset of the motherboard. Thank you to everyone who to took the time to respond. But now I have more questions :). 1st question: Is there a way to alter the brightness of the analog tuner channels? Frankly they are washed out and overly muted. 2nd question: I bought the combo with the MCE remote and IR-receiver from newegg (see link). I would assume that this remote can be programmed with commands to shut off the TV and raise, lower the volume, etc and also maybe using the red, blue, yellow, and green buttons as seen on the bottom. Has anyone found any information about programming this remote. On that same question, the IR-Box also comes with an IR-output device, is there a way maybe to use that to do advanced IR-macros? Just trying to figure out all the possibilities with this thing.

It's because the cable companies know we are all thieves and we will record movies on pay channels like HBO, Skinemax, etc and then upload them to every bit torrent site out there. :) It's all about forcing us to use their boxes, cable companies make a ton of profit on DVR/STB rentals. It's all about profit. -D

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
OK, one more problem.
Operation has been great for the last few weeks, and I've updated the guide a few times.
I returned from a trip. No guide. Updated. Still no guide. Rebooted and - you guessed it - no guide for any (SD and HD) channel.
Anybody have an idea what to do, something that is relatively painless?

An update. Another day. Multiple tries at downloads, all of which reported successful (they weren't). Again tried to leave VMC and come back to see if they were refreshed.
Tried a third time at a reboot. It worked this time. Update is good up to July 5.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
brego:Thank you Felix! This is great news for those
people whose cable companies use HRC. Mine uses IRC. Any word on adding
this?
I have that problem too. TW cable in NC uses IRC, not STD or HRC. Is there any chance this will get added to the tool? Analog cable looks great. Just need QAM working with IRC so it will see the channels.

Man I had the problem about 8 months ago and I downloaded a Microsoft fix that corrected it. It WILL happen again.
I forget the KB number but I believe it is rolled up into Vista SP1 if you install that package.
