I only thought that I had fixed the thermal issues with this card.

Specs for my HTPC:

- ASUS M2N32 SLI Deluxe, EVGA GeForce 7900 GT OC, SB X-Fi, Dual WD HD, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+, 2 GB 800MHz Corsair, 620W PS, XP MCE 2005 (I'm a gamer)

I took the guts out of the Silverstone HTPC case and installed them into an Antec 900, great case with great cooling. I figured that with far better cooling and a full half hour of TV that my problem was solved but after 45 minutes of watching the skipping started again. I have been able to get the card to work the same in both my X16 and X1 slots.  The card was hot to the touch and is on its way back to Buy_com.

I was able to get the QAM to work in both the AverMediaCenter and AverTV using only the 2.5.0.14 drivers. The QAM channels suffered from a weird 1Hz pausing frequency, not enough to actually cause a stutter in audio but the video stream would stall just long enough to notice. I was also able to get one OTA HD channel in MCE 2005 but MCE crashed after a minute or two.

I will be installing a HVR-1800 soon and will post my results in an HVR-1800 thread.

Thanks for the data-point regarding this card working in your x4 slot.  I am of course, at a loss to explain why this behavior.  I suspect, as are you.

However, this still doesn't address a number of other odd behaviors I've detailed to their CS and pasted in my above two posts.  Not to mention the day-n-night difference between Felix's and Avermedia CS's response.

I'm still waiting for Felix's repsonse as well as the results of his experiments he promised over two weeks back.

The stuttering in Media Center is normally caused by an issue with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 driver.  Download the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe)at http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html.  (TV shows that were recorded before installing this update will still experience this stuttering issue)

I'm always amazed when a person who works for a company takes the time to try and help someone with their company's products on a third party forum and then users there seem to think that it is that person's duty to solve every support issue as if it were a top priority support request.

(1) He is not likely even from AverMedia's tech support team

(2) Even if he was a member of the AverMedia support team, answering questions on a third party site would not likely give him "credit" from AverMedia for solving any issues.  If he posts here it is a bonus to you, not a right.

(3) This is not AverMedia.com.  You will likely get much better support and assistance there, and if not, then you would have a right to complain

Why not just go through proper channels if there is a particular answer you are waiting for?  Sites like thegreenbutton are great for getting quick answers and feedback, but you can't be mad when the answer is not on here.  It is not the official support page for the product.

That would require some actual work. Most of the posts here, and any other tech forum, are from people who don't want to solve things themselves.
But to be that rude and make a post like the one above yours is ridiculous. Even though this is the internet, there is still some etiquette to follow.

Poddie, MitchSchaft, why don't the two of you take a few moments away from being hypocrites and stereotyping all forum posters, and scan through some of my earlier posts? 

I've not only been through all possible steps and options to resolve my issue on my own, I've also gone through their customer support with more disconnects than answers. 

If Felix claims to be an Avermedia representative, is proactively willing to help and clarify nuances about this product and makes certain claims without backing them with data,  you may want to sit tight -  I don't see the need to.  You seem flabbergasted by my use of bold and red.  You however are completely ignorant (or choose to be) about how long since he hasn't replied. 

I appreciate his responses in the first place, I know I can't make him reply and I also fully understand if he can't run the experiment he suggested he'd try based on my earlier response (of course, you'd have known that IF you took the time to read my earlier posts).  However, if you associate your name next to a company as a rep., provide some responses, and mysteriously disappear for months in the face of an open issues and discrepancies that someone brings forth with sufficient details to back them up, you better expect the inquirer to make that issue more visible.

As for your narrow-minded views about how forums across the internet should operate: forums ARE for getting as well as providing help.  If you don't want to help, move along. 

Don't criticize those that are going through the proper channels with your stereotypes.  That's right, there is ABSOLUTELY nothig wrong with using forums to solve problems AND conversely, also help others when you can - I've done both... more than I can say for the two of you in this case.

Of course, "you're rude" as a response to my question of why not bother reading earlier posts and get context behind my frustration, just proves my point: hypocrisy galore.

I don't see how using a red / bold font to draw attention to a long open question is rude.  At that, on a thread proactively started by Felix, with standard press release blurb for the newly released product from his own company.

If you sitll feel strongly about bold red fonts, feel free to excuse yourself so you can get educated on the context behind the long standing issues raised and disconnects explicitly pointed out, before you bother blurting out some other stereotype.

I have just got two lots of this card (DVB-T, as I am in Australia)
Have the same overheating problems. After 20 minutes both cards are too hot to touch.
And system stuttering and freezing for 2-3 sec every 15 sec.

First of all, I am real person and I work for AVerMedia Technologies, USA office.

Lately I was traveling a lot and I didn't have time to review this forum.

Regarding issues with AVerTV Combo PCIe M780 TV tuner, I personally rested this tuner in PCIe x1 and PCIx16 and it does work in both slots, however none of my motherboards have PCIex4 or x8, I will order one.

Accoridng to PCIe specification, all the slots should be interchangable, however in real live you know there are so many different motherboard manifucatures, and some of them may not follow the specficiation correctly.

Regarding to heat problems with this tuner, yes it's run hot, however with proper cooling it will work normally. In this card we are using high end Hardware Encoder Chipset from NEC. Currently we are considering to desing new drivers that will turn off NEC when is not in use.

Regarding QAM Scanning, in field we found out that cable companies changes frequency table often and in result, some customers experincing problem with getting QAM, our R&D team almost complete new Scanning tool that will do complete scan on, and I'll release this to you.

I know a lot of people have had troubles with this card.  I wanted to chime in with my experience:

For what it's worth, I love these cards, and they have worked flawlessly for me for since I got them in April.

I run two of them in one machine, both are in x1 slots, on an Asus P5W DH Deluxe mobo, in a Silverstone LC20m case, with all fan slots populated.

I have not had any problems with overheating, but this is a well-designed case for this, provided proper fans are installed (which they are).

I often run with multiple tuners active, during 'new show' season I had two analog and two atsc recordings active for several hours per evening, without heat issues or any stuttering to speak of (except on NBC, but that is due to poor signal strength in my area, confirmed by other people and multiple tuner types - in fact, this tuner seems to work better for NBC for me than my old A180 or HDTV wonder ever did).

The analog quality is not the highest, but definitely acceptable and far from the worst I've seen.

I should note that I have been using this card for 3 months and it has worked well so far.  No stuttering, over-heating, etc.  I am using it in a 1xPCIe slot and in a case with decent cooling (it is still very quiet) though.  My only issue is that I can't get it to work with VMC, but I mostly use Orb to DVR everything so that isn't that big of a deal.

I would love to hear people's cooling setup whom are having the overheating troubles.
