Ripping Movies to MPEG2 for Extender Play Back?

So if I use DVD Decrypter to rip a movie to my comp as a single .vob and re-name it to a .mpg so I can use "My Movies" to catalog and view them on my Linksys Extender everything works great. But only for small 30 min movies (My daughters baby einstein collection). If I rip full length movies then each movie...at the exact same point....regardless of how many times I re-rip the movie always freezes at a certain point with the message "Network Congestion". Beatuy and The Beast about 4 min in. Marry Poppins an hour and a half in, Finding Nemo 45 min in, Shrek 2 an hour, Shark Tale 25 min in......

I know its not network congestion or it wouldnt freeze every movie at the exact same point every time. Plus I would expect to see stuttery performace but it is rock solid. It also freezes in WMC as well at the same point (which cant be network congestion), until I changed rippers see below.

I have re-ripped them a dozen times and cant get the mpeg2's to play normal. If the movies are short they play fine. What was weird is that when I used DVD shrink they would freeze on the extender, WMC and in WMP 10 at the same point. But when I switched to DVD Decrypter they stopped freezing in WMP & WMC but still freeze on the extender.

Any help on getting full movies ot rip as a single vob to convert to mpg that works on the extenders?

Also what was weird..is that certain movies like Shrek 2, if I ripped it, it would play normal on WMP 10, but themn on the extender once it finished the promo intor and would start into the movies it would instantly jump to the credits. But once I re-authored the movie and chopped the credits off it would play fine...for 45 min until it would freeze.

I think you need to keep the quailty down for the extender.

Try 640X480 for one of your movie (5mps).  This should help keeps the data from overloading on your network.

Also I think that is the max res for the extenders anyway.

Oh, THIS issue again.  Check out this thread...

Ripping and renaming does work for some, but it's unreliable for the most part.  I've never got it to work, so I just usDVDDecrypter or DVDShrink and the TMPGEnc MPEG Editor to generate a true MPEG file with MPEG Audio.

Moved to another HTPC solution, so I'm no longer a Media Center user, but I like to keep track of its progress.

    Hey ghostlobster!

DVDDecrypter or DVDShrink and the TMPGEnc MPEG Editor is definitely the ticket for proper playback on all media center devices. 30 minutes or so, is all it takes.

I have found a new method to cut the time down nearly in half.  It's easy enough, but a bit confusing at first.  You might want to try it just for fun.

    1.  I start with smart ripper and spit out two streams - .m2v and .ac3. ( 7 to 10 minutes)

    2. Use Imtoo to convert .ac3 to .mp2 audio (1 or 2 minutes)

    3. Use TMPGenc Mpeg tools option to Mux .mp2 audio and .m2v video into .mpg (5 minutes).

End result the same, but only take 15 to 17 minutes.

That's exactly what I'd like to be able to do, but in a much easier way. Can anyone wrap this up into a batch process so that I just hit one button to kick this all off?

This is an old post from 2005, has this process gotten any easier or quicker. I want to rip my DVD's into a format I can use with MyMovies and watch on my xbox extender without using transcoder 360.
