    FM Radio no longer available

Since June 12th 2009, US television stations have ceased analog broadcast. Microsoft Media Center, therefore, no longer detects Analog TV stations during the Setup process and only configures Digital TV stations.

Unfortunately, this bypasses the configuration of FM Radio which is still Analog. Manually configuring Analog overrides the Digital setup, so only Digital OR Analog can be configured.

Does anyone have an idea how to configure both Digital TV AND Analog FM Radio in Media Center? BTW: ATI Media Center still plays both.

    Thanks

I have analog cards with cable boxes attached (awesome) still necessitating analog TV setup.  Perhaps you can do a manual setup and tell MC that you have cable TV then omit the channels after setup.  It's not elegant but it should work, it's a shame FM got overlooked here.

Not sure about the radio tuner, but I have been more satisfied with the Radio Time plug-in then I've ever been with Vista's radio UI in Media Center.

How good can it be, if it isn't HD?

Problem here as well.  It worked for the first week after the switch, then kaput.  We use the radio over an extender on our TV setup out by our pool.

I am looking at the registry to see if I can export the part for the analog FM radio and enable it again, basing it off of the parts from this thread:

    http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/349057.aspx

However, based on the time involved I may just use our portable iPod radio when we go outside now...plus the fact the outside/shaded temperatures are getting beyond the specs for the extender.

Does radio even work in Windows 7?

    Thanks mcewinter, but no success.
I spent the past few hours attempting to configure MCE for Cable, but it affects the Electronic Programming Guide and I still can't get Digital broadcasts.

I guess I should ask what type of tuners are you working with.  It sounds like OTA only.  Can't you edit the channels to remove the unwanted cable channels from the EPG?

Edit: It sounds like you have hybrid tuners that only allow analog or digital which will be a problem.  I have two ATI550 cards and two HDHomerun devices so my tuners are discrete and not hybrid.

I am using Visiontek's All-in-Wonder HD video card/tuner for OTA reception. This is a hybrid tuner, but I had no problem watching digital TV, Analog TV, and listening to FM radio prior to June 12. I only encountered problems when I reran MMC to scan for new DTV stations after June 12.

Microsofts MMC setup routine presumes that, if no NTSC stations are found, there is no need to configure the Analog component; forgetting that FM Radio is still around. This is not a problem with the tuner; but with the MMC Setup program. MMC configured everything correctly before June 12, and I can still get digital TV and FM Radio using ATI's Media Center.

Unfortunately, the MMC EPG will not allow me to configure a Digital channel when configured for cable.

Did you try to set up your tuners manually after MC set up scanned your tuner hardware?

I had a similar problem which I fixed today. Set up your TV signal manually and when it asks you the type of antenna ( I think it says cable analog or digital ) select analog. A step or two after it will ask you if you have a digital antenna, click yes. Continue thru the rest of your setup and you should have FM, I do now.
