Sleep on my 2 systems not working correctly

Every time I put my systems to sleep they wake up on their own sometimes just minutes later. I turned off all TV shows I am recording and it still wakes up on its own and never puts itself back to sleep. I mainly use them for the media center. Has anyone had the same experience? Is there a fix?

Just check you're bios for wake on usb activity or some such disable then Reboot and retry sleep.

open a cmd window and type "powercfg -requests". That should tell you whats keeping it from going to sleep. Though it sounds like its going to sleep and reawakening.

Also, wireless keyboards and mice are notorious for doing what you're experiencing, so if you are using any, go into device manager and uncheck "allow device to wake computer", for each device.

Also, go into the bios and disable wake on lan activity.

Also again, I've had some mobos that are jumpered to remove USB power when sleeping. The sudden disappearance of power was interpreted as a wake up request and they did what you're experiencing.  This is usually controlled by jumpers on the mobo. Make sure they're set to always supply +5V to the usb ports.

More than likely it's Wake on Lan, go to device manager, select your adapter's properties, select power management, tick the box for magic packet only.

For some reason W7 defaults to waking up with any random packet over the LAN.

Go into media center and turn off the wall of pictures screen saver.  Also, there was an earlier bug that if the computer was a member of a homegroup, it wouldnt go to sleep.  Also, there is still a bug where if there are open media files, it wont go to sleep, and it leaves media files open if they are played from another computer/server.

Open a dos window and type "powercfg -requests" and it will tell you why it didnt go to sleep.

In windows 7 you need to right click on the command for command window and choose the option to "run as administrator" in order to get the administrative priviledge in Win7.

Windows will then let you run that "powercft -requests" command.

I'm sorry to keep bothering you but I am not understanding. I am not seeing the run as admin option. Erik

You right click on the "Command Prompt" icon to get the option. So you would click Start, type command in the search window, then right click Command Prompt in the search results.
