    avi jitters

i searched on this and got lots of hits, but not really finding help....
avi's play perfect in WMP, but in VMC i get the jitters, it's weird if you move the mouse, and the controls pop up, it stops, but returns immediately after buttons timeout.
finally got TMT3 integration thanks to patch, but now can't play tv shows and such.

    thanks for any help,

Did the avi problem just appear or has it always been there (could it be linked with the tv show problem)?

I think the problem is normally put down to graphics card drivers and the different directx mode and overlay stuff that going fullscreen uses.

Does the same thing happen with mpg or wmv files?

Which codecs are you using for the avi files?

Which graphics card drivers are you using and have you tried different ones (older as well as newer) ?

Maybe worth trying a full uninstall of the catalyst software and uninstall the card from in device manager - delete the driver if you get the option.

Then reboot and install catalyst again.

Also try this for ATI cards.

Open CCC go to the deinterlace section and uncheck auto deinterlace and then change interlace option to the middle one, think it is just adaptive (not vector adaptive or motion adaptive).

    That worked for me.

i believe that it's always been there, in the past i've mostly not used media center but just used media player (in full screen), i think i started doing  that because of that problem.

i just recently installed new catalyst driver but it's the same either way.

i noticed today that it does it during the intro screens to dvd's, but not the movie itself.

some avi's work fine, mp4 (divx5) jitters, but mp4 (divx3) does not, it's the toons i have that mostly do it, i think

i have only sharky's vista codec pack, and 64bit extras, installed on a clean install of vista, which works near perfectly for me for everything else.

i haven't checked if it has affected anything else adversely, not sure if it would or not,
but, it totally fixed the jitters with the files i had problems with.

    many thanks!!

    Hey,
for the deinterlacing setting in CCC, it keeps resetting itself to automatic, do you know how to preventt that.  i created a profile to see if that would help, hasn't been tested yet though.

    Re: avi jitters

now having issue again, using same CCC deinterlace setting.  i just updated to latest vista codec pack, tried switching to Haali splitter, made it better but still flashing.  nothing else i did had any effect.  works fine in wmp....  If anyone knows why this is happening and could reply i would appreciate it.

    thanks,
