    SiliconDust HDHomeRun and Comcast DTA's

Will the SiliconDust HDHomeRun work with Comcast DTA's?

Comcast has delivered 2 of the DTA's and if the SiliconDust HDHomeRun can receive the digital signal I can control them over my network and the IR blasters.

Never mind I was able to answer my own question from the HDHR forum:

The good news is that the HDHR should be able to pick up any channel that can be tuned by the DTAs - since the DTAs don't support the same encryption used with CableCard and set-top-boxes. And since the HDHR is digital - the quality will be much better than the output from the DTA (which is an analog signal).

The bad news is that Comcast could apply for an FTC waiver and start using Privacy Mode with the DTAs, which could prevent the HDHR from accessing the same channels.

So, should a Pinnacle 801se USB tuner be able to pick up any channel that the DTA can?

Checkout question # 31 on the FAQ page for Comcast's explanation of their Digital Migration at:

    www.comcast.com/digitalnow

According to their answer, when they've finished the migration (including the DTAs) TVs with QAM tuners will only be able to get the BASIC channels (local broadcast plus local government).

So the same fate awaits every tuner except cablecard or tivo?

Re: SiliconDust HDHomeRun and Comcast DTA's

I live in Portland, OR and about 2 months ago Comcast flipped the switch on QAM signals so now subscribers can only get channels below 32 via QAM.  All other channels now require CableCards. because they are encrypted.  I called Comcast to verify this behavior.  This has pretty much rendered my HDHR useless, so now I have to use the craptastical DTAs and IR blasters.
