PC no longer displays on TV screen -- remote apparently not communicating PC no longer displays on TV screen -- remote apparently not communicating

One day, the WMC is working fine. The next, not so much. After using it, I used the remote's PC power button to turn the TV display off, and then I turned the TV off, like always.

The next day, I turn on the TV, press the PC power button, which usually causes the WMC to display on the screen, but nothing happens. The remote is apparently not communicating with the PC. However, it still communicates with the TV itself and with the sound receiver, as the volume buttons still work and the TV will turn on and off. So the problem is only with the remote and its connection to the PC.

I restarted. I checked the cord that runs from the PC's USB port to the TV screen, and that is secure. The red light on the IR receiver lights up when I press any button on the remote.

The only problem is that the remote will not tell the PC to display. The PC will shut down and restart just fine.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi,

I assume you're resuming the PC from S3 sleep.  I also assume that you place the PC to S3 sleep with WMC in fullscreen.  If so, then this is a known issue in Win7 RC that was fixed in post RC.

Basically, when the PC resumes from S3 sleep, there's a timing issue that occurs where the graphics card device is not recognized before WMC renders the Start Menu to your display.  Thus, you'll hit a black screen.

If you have a keyboard/mouse attached, you can hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, then click on Cancel, and you should see the WMC start menu again.

    Thanks
