SOLVED: missing channels8.1 11.1 21.1 after DTV switch

Hello all, im sure there is a thread for this and perhaps and answer, but i was unable to find it when i was trying to resolve the issue. So im just going to make a post with my solution in case others are still having the issue.

I live in dallas tx, and i recently discovered my OTA ditigal stations 8.1 11.1 and 21.1 were no longer working. I had a full signal, but when id try to watch them i would just get a no signal error in MCE. I found a post on another forum saying the frequencies for some stations had changed due to the DTV conversion. so this is what I did to get my 3 stations back. I hope someone finds this useful

my channel 8, 11 and 21 were not working, i went thru this process for 8.1, 8.2 8.3 11.1 and then somehow my channel 21 started working. i dont know what happened there, but i didnt
try this on 21 so i dont know what the correct frequency should be.. Id guess 21

    channel 8.1 new frequency 8
    channel 8.2 new frequency 8
    channel 8.3 new frequency 8
    channel 11.1 new frequency 11

add new channel with correct frequency

    tasks/setting/TV/GUIDE/add missing channels

    choose add DTV channel

type the digital tv channel (11.1) next

    type assigned frequency (11) next

assign your new channel a name (the name is irrelevant as it gets overwritten, so type something easy like "AA") choose add

goto the guide and find your new channel AA, make sure you are getting a live TV signal.

    tasks/setting/TV/GUIDE/edit channels

scroll down to find your newly created channel and select it. (do not select the check box. scroll right and actually click on the channel name itself)

    scroll left, choose edit listings

scroll down to find the correct channel name (11.1 KTVTDT (KTVT-DT) CBS AFFILIATE) press ok (note the channels are listed alphabetically by call letter, not numerically)

choose COPY LISTINGS FROM CHANNEL 11.1 TO CHANNEL 11.1

    tasks/setting/TV/GUIDE/edit channels

scroll down to find your new channel, you should now see 2 identical station. the first is the non working one, the 2nd is the working one you just created, confirm this by using
the show preview option on the bottom left.

UNCHECK the check box next to the first non working station to remove it from the guide

save and that should be it.

EDIT**  the frequency for channe 21 is now 19

Here in Detroit, FOX2 changed their frequency assignment from 58 to 7. I knew this, so I ran "Set up TV Tuner" on my XP machine and it switched it with no problem.

Tried the exact same thing on the Windows 7 machine and it didn't work. Tried downloading guide data, re-running Media Center Setup, tried re-scanning digital channels, nothing worked.

I'll try what you suggest above, but I find it ridiculous that 7MC can't do something XP MCE did with just a few clicks.

    Just my 2 cents,
    Jeff

I agree with you jeff_vs.  I also tried rerunning all the various setups and couldnt get anything to work on my Win 7 box.  I finally added them manually as i detailed above to get things to work.  microsoft has had plenty of time to prepare an update to resolve this issue...

Yes, this does "fix" the problem, however MS needs to fix Windows 7. This DTV switch has been in the works for years and Microsoft needs to release an update to fix this.

My main complaint is that when you do a scan for more DTV channels it does not show the new stations that changed frequency. What is the point of the scan then?? My HDTV does a better job of scaning and finding any new stations or any updates.

Second, it would be nice if MS would include some better tools for viewing information on OTA stations. These would include more detailed information on each station including frequency, signal stregth in db, and some other simple inforation to help us isolate what the problem would be.

Hey, thanks for your notes.  I found a pointer to this thread on the MS.MCE newsgroup and it looks exactly like what I need to fix my homemade tvpc.  I live in Garland, TX (a suburb of Dallas for those reading this who don't know).
