Automatic live TV on extender start?

I would like live tv to automatically start when I turn on my xbox 360 extender.
I have tried using a batch file for the extender user logon script without success.
Any other ideas on how I might do this? I only want this to execute on the extender only and not the pc.

There are a few ways you could do this, but nothing easy.

The way I'd do it would be to install VMCcontroller and then add a login script with a delay that would issue the Live TV command to VMCController at just the right time.

You could also do this with a universal programmable remote or a home automation controller.

VMC Controller is a very nice app, but it does not work on windows 7. Isnt there a way I could do this via a batch file on login?

It works on Win7, but it isn't as simple as next, next, next.

I suppose you could look into using a ehshell command line switch and running it in a login script.

Maybe from a login script with the following command:

    %SystemRoot%\ehome\ehshell.exe /homepage:VideoFullscreen.xml /Push-StartPage:True

@Nokkie I tried that and several other scripts via batch files and nothing seems to run with the login script for an extender. I find it hard to believe that the extender profile is locked down that tight. This may require some sort of registy modification.

Any other suggestions?  I can't believe I am the only one to try and do this.

Re: Automatic live TV on extender start?

    Hi kc8emd,

the best solution without a profile hack etc. would be a BackgroundAddIn that starts live TV after the MCX Session is started.
This means, after ~ 7 seconds live TV would start automatically.

What Channel should it play by default?

    DanB

The last channel viewed would be fine and is also media centers default.

Could you please go into a little more detail on how I might use a BackgroundAddIn to do this?

Re: Automatic live TV on extender start?

    Hi kc8emd,

    yes.

To solve this we need to dev. a BackgroundAddIn. A BackgroundAddIn has no UI, and gets startet right after the Media Center start. Usually it takes 7 seconds til lthe AddIn starts.
The AddIn would then start LiveTV and tune into the last channel.

For what purpose do you need this feature ?

    Greetings,

     Dan
