Windows 7 x32 Media Center & QAM (Hauppauge 2250)
I tried to pick up QAM channels using Windows 7 x32's Media Center through Happauge 2250 (dual tuner on one card). Now only did it fail to pick up most of the QAM channels in my area, the channel mapping is also wrong. Has anybody else tried using the Media Center with 2250 or other QAM tuners?
I am a lil disappointed and hope for future improvements. The ability to use QAM is very important for someone like me who is surrounded by skyscrapers and has planes flying low in the sky very 5 minutes.. I thought Media Center built into Windows 7 would finally do that for me as the TV back for Vista didn't work for me, but....
Any stories regarding QAM tuninng by Windows 7 Media Center and tips are appreciated.

Re: Windows 7 x32 Media Center & QAM (Hauppauge 2250)
My 2250 picked up all the clear QAM channels, I just had to remap them to match the cable box. For instance, the old cablebox shows Fox as 705, while the 2250 reports it as 1008.705. I just edited the channels and all was good. I think the 2250 picked up the channels just as they are broadcasted via the cable...the cable provider makes it easy on the consumer and shortens it for the cablebox (which you have to do by editing the channel)

If the channel mapping is all wrong, then you probably chose the wrong guide when it asked which provider to use. As far as finding the QAM channels, go to Settings/Guide/Edit channels. The rest of the channels should be there. Go through the list and check off all the channels without a lock next to them. No info will be listed so you will have to manually map them. My 2250 works so good I got rid of my cable system dvr.

lithuim is correct - they were probably picked up, it just couldn't map to a guide listing, and if it wasn't mapped to a guide listing, it won't show up in the guide! Also, if you find a clear QAM channel you KNOW should be, just add it manually, then map to a known guide listing.

Hm.. yes Beyond TV picked up all channels. The hardware is good, my problem is Media Center not picking it up. Since it's free / built into Windows, i would like to be able to use Media Center. Have you successfully picked up all QAM using Media Center whatever your hardware? when I compare the number of channels picked up by Media Center to that picked up by my television and another computer tuner, it's a lot less. :s But thanks, Ill see if I can remap the channels and go from there. I didn't know I could do that with Media Center!

Thanks! I didn't know you could remap channels on Media Center. I just chose my cable provider because there's only one that 's monopolizing the market here, lol. Alright! I'll look into it!

Thanks for your advice. I need to look at the options on Media Center more carefully. I didn't know you can manually add channels or remap the channels, I'll try tonight. xoxo

After adding the channels, go to the guide and hit the info button on the remote. Choose edit channels. Then you can pick the correct listing from the list. Most of them will match the analog channels. If thats the case I choose the option to combine the channels, then the channel will only show up once. Digial and high def channels will be the priority.

Same setup here. Had to edit channels, enable them and map them to the correct listing.
Just a couple of channels though, not the whole thing

Re: Windows 7 x32 Media Center & QAM (Hauppauge 2250)
This is just impossible, I first chose Time Warner South Manhattan but that didn't work so, RCN which are two major cable companies here.
But on the EPG, both CBS and NBC take me to CBS. How is it possible that the same channel number of CBS is linked to both CBS and NBC on the EPG?
So, I went to edit channels and looked into all unencrypted channels with no channel assignments trying to look for NBC, Most of the channels had no assignments.
But NBC is nowhere to be found! Just weird, I have picked up NBC with Beyond TV and Pinnacle PCTV in addition to my television's QAM tuner. It's there, but Media Center is not picking it up....
I am suspecting that there may be something wrong in the EPG data baee? I thought I was picking a wrong provider, but I am not, LOL!

Re: Windows 7 x32 Media Center & QAM (Hauppauge 2250)
Hey thanks!!!!
I had to use DTV channels from Beyond TV to manutally enter those numbers.
I noticed for instance when 104.1 was picked up, Media Center missed 104.2 . It was NOT picked up. However, after I manually entered 104.2, it picked up 104.2. My current issue is linking that channel to Media Center's EPG as 104.2 is not in their EPG data base based on my zip and cable provider... Any tip on this?

Re: Windows 7 x32 Media Center & QAM (Hauppauge 2250)
I have this card and for some reason I have it playing QAM + digital cable (Analog) but for some reason in the device manager it still shows I have have other hardware needing to install for my 2250? I tried teh latest drivers from Hauppauge and whatever it's trying to install it won't install. I have no issues with MC7 watching or recording but hate having missing hardware in my device manager.
