    comcast digital convertor

hey all, i'm really sorry if this has been discussed but i searched and couldn't find the thread. if someone could point me in the right direction or to another thread..

comcast did their lame digital switchover thing and i got my digital converter box all hooked up and working, but i only get channel 3 in mce, so natually my mce doesn't record the shows. ive never had a box hooked up in all the years of having mc, just always been straight analog.

where can i find some instructions on how to set it up right so i dont have to set all my shows to record on channel 3 and change it manually, if at all possible..

    thanks in advance!
    again sorry.

you will need to rerun tv setup and select "have a set top box" This will require you to have IR Emitter attached to the IR receiver that is used by MCE.  I haven't tested it, however I believe there are some issues getting the standard MCE remote to record the IR codes from the Comcast remote.

Your other option(a no brainer for me) is to replace your analog tuner with a QAM tuner.  You will be hard pressed to find a better tuner then the HDHomerun.

Unfortunaly, if he has a digital package that includes ecrypted channels, HDHomerun won't help there. Then you are back to haveing a IR blaster or swticht to a cable card tuner.

Prices on Cable Car tuners on ebay have fallen to the point where I would pick that over the HDHomerun. Cable cards run about $2 a month from the cable company, and you get all the channels you would get with the box (less the on-demand content).

Sure wish I'd found this forum long ago.  I could have learned a great deal!  LOL

Comcast just switched us last week and I got caught unprepared.  I've hooked up a STB but WMC can't recognize the channels.  And I have an internal dual tuner.  Comcast -- after telling me 8 times that they didn't know anything about WMC hookups -- told me that I'd only get one channel to view or record and would need to install a single tuner card.

I'm research the Silicondust HDHomeRun.  Any better ideas?

    Thanks,

    sherry

Can someone tell me with Comcast and a Cablecard tuner what channels have DRM and what doesn't?  I convert shows for my iPod and if DRM are there, that blows it for me.
